Show Marriott-Slaterville History May 2009 After discussion the council voted to adopt the FY 2009-10 tentative budget for the Pioneer Special District, and set a public hearing for June 18, 2009, on the final budget. The money is collected from new subdivisions in the district, and will be used primarily to operate the secondary water system. The council also approved the motion to review FY 2008-09 budget for the purposes of amendment, with a public hearing on the proposed amendment set for June 18, 2009. Mr. Morris briefly discussed the proposed FY 2009-10 tentative budget and answered questions from the council. He thanked Mayor Butler for his diligent work on the budgets. The tentative FY 2009-10 budget was approved by the council, and a public hearing date was set for June 18, 2009. Council member assignments for the July 4* Celebration were reviewed by Mr. Morris. He also gave each member a letter from the Nature Center regarding spraying of mosquitos at the center. Following the council meeting on May 21, the council, mayor, and some members of the park committee, along with some residents, attended the ribbon cutting and dedication of the new bowery at Slaterville Park. The ceremony was brief. Mayor Butler and President Ilium thanked the staff and all involved for their work on the new facility. All were invited to tour the new building. The ceremony adjourned about 8:45 p.m. The city has received a $7.5 million grant for the reconstruction of 400 North from 1-15 to 1200 West. UDOT anticipates opening the project for bid this summer, and construction will commence this fail. The Marriott Park bowery is under construction this year. It is anticipated that it will be operable for the July 4tn celebration. Additional improvements such as safety improvements, a new playground, and possibly a pressurized irrigation system are planned. A $166,000.00 grant will be used for this project. The house at 1359 West 700 South was foreclosed, then acquired and demolished by the City as a public nuisance abatement project. The property will be added to the Heritage Park Regional Storm Water Detention Basin. A Safe-route to School Grant for $150,000.00 from UDOT to the city will construct a sidewalk on the east side of 1600 West from 400 North to 250 North at the Pioneer Elementary School. Work, under the direction of UDOT, should commence this summer. An Emergency Management Training was held on May 13, 2009, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The topic was "who does what when a disaster occurs." The Community Emergency Response Team is seeking donations for emergency items to stock for the city's CERT storage units. Items needed include first aid supplies, flashlights, blankets, duct tape, scissors, crescent wrench, sheets, plastic bags. A donation box is located at the City Office, where a complete list of items needed will be posted. The new Maverik Station in our city was robbed May 16, 2009, by a man wearing a white bandana. He reached over the counter to grab a cash drawer, and made off with an undisclosed amount of money. An accident at the intersection of 1900 West and 12^ Street, resulted in one man being taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries on May 25, 2009. The other vehicle involved was pulling a horse trailer. Marriott-Slaterville City was awarded $1,000 in an EZ RAMP grant for use on the July 4, 2009, city celebration. The award was announced in the May 16, 2009, issue of the Standard Examiner. May is Stroke Awareness Month and the McKay Dee Hospital Center held stroke education and screening on May 19, 2009, at the Marriott-Slaterville Senior Center. 152 |
