Captain of the guard, Elmer ' Burke; lieutenant of the guard, Chester Zinn; orderly of the rec- 1 ords, Joe Kershisnik; orderly of j finance, Lawrence Skeen. More than 120,000 high school : hoys are now enrolled in R. O. T. C. throughout the country. This enrollment could easily be doubled if only the government had the necessary funds. It is practically impossible for new high schools s to get the unit established now. High school notes are evidently read in places other than Ogden. J A letter from Granite district came to the school, which read: "We are interested in the "Athenian Oath' and would fee very grateful if you would send us a typewritten copy of the same." They are wise-they do not trust , our 'long-hand.' ; . An O. H. S. teacher at Brigham ' the other night was quite surprised to have a prominent citizen there 1 quote verbatim, the questions and answers of a recent set of examin- nation questions that was printed in the O. H. S. notes. The basketball series is half over-and not a defeat. The second half will be just like the first, ; "not a defeat." ; The team will journey to Bear River City next Friday to meet the : team there on their own floor. Dean Milton Bennion of the University of Utah passed Friday with ; the classes in history and social science at the high school. He expressed himself as much pleased with the work being done. He also spoke interestingly at assembly. Blanche Barton, class of 1920, left for Ann Arbor, Mich. ,this morning to enter the University of Michigan. Mrs. C. C. Wilson will give an' address on "Open-Mindedness in Literature" before the Gamma Kappa society on Wednesday at 3:15 o'clock, room 305. Mr. Connell, teacher of mechani- j cal drawing, has just been advised that his drawing, "The Blackboard Compass," will appear in the next number of the Industrial Arts magazine. Pictures of the O. H. S. rifle squad, first team and second team, will appear in next Sunday's issue of the Chicago Evening American. The carpentry department btiilt a small speakers' rostrum on the south side of the assembly hall last week. This makes it possible for the speaker to be both seed and heard at the weekly meetings. The orchestra and Glee clubs received high praise from both Dean Bennion and Superintendent Hopkins at the assembly last Friday. It is planned to make music an important feature of all assemblies hereafter. Student Body President Bill Petty was recipient of a handsome oak gavel on Friday, the compliments of the mechanic art department. The semester report shows that every member of the athletic squad qualified. Grades were forwarded to State Arbiter Willard Ashton today. |
