QUEEN ELECTED The Classicalia queen was elected Friday afternoon, but only two people, Evelyn Dobbs, chairman of Classicalia committee, and Vice Principal Gertrude Coolidge, know who is the fortunate girl. They propose keeping this as a dark mystery secret until the night of the Classicalia, March 15. They report that the queen-to-be had j a handsome majority and that j the selection will be a big sur- I prise. j A dark horse queen, Phyllis j ! (alias Bill Petty) was presented to the student body at Friday's assembly. We are wondering if "she" will prove to be the real , queen on' Classicalia night! ! The non-successful queen candi- j ) ! dates will be successful in this; I each and all will serve as maids I to the queen on carnival night. ! The queen candidates, in company with Miss Dobson and Miss Nelson, will go to Salt Lake on Saturday to select costumes for the great night. By the way, if students haven't j their costumes yet, they'd better I be getting them as the carnlvai , is only 12 days off now, and, remember, this is a costume ball. One hundred and fifty rooters will be at the opening game m Salt Lake Wednesday night, and i a, large number will attend eacn succeeding night-if we win-and we shall win. Thirteen students entered essays in the Durake Floral contest, "Washington's Devotion to His Mother," last week. One of our patrons, Fred Huish, thinks some organization should offer a prize to the student who , contributes most to making Ogden I a more beautiful Ogden. He says j if no organizati n will do it, he'll I do it himself soon. Mr. Huish is certainly a booster for Ogden. Ail day long he thinks and talks and works to make ,Ogden more beautiful, and he drearns of a more beautiful Ogden every night. ACTIONS PRAISED Every day witnesses good sportsmanship and civic pride in a school such as ours. For example, on Wednesday last it was necessary to secure help to carry 500 chairs down from assembly and up into the Weber gym. On Friday these had to be returned. A goodly numbers of boys volunteered to do this work and did it well both i days. Again on Friday when students carn to school they found that the enthusiasm of a few students had led them to mar the building by gluing pasters on the walls both inside and out. A group of boys regarded this as incongruous, inconsistent and unwise. They proceeded at once to remove the posters and to clean, up the building. All honor to such students. They should be given medals. j The writer of "O. H. S. Notes" j receives many bouquets. Once m I a while, however, a "cabbage" is thrown in. Here is one that came ' Friday: "The notes, oh, they aru j j so rotten I never read them." i Word has been received from j Israel Silverstein, class of ,22, thatj he will enter the University of Iowa, at Ames, next quarter. HOUSSAIN LECTURE Teachers who do not find it convenient o go to the big gam.? Wednesday night are arranging to attend Syud Houssain's lecture at the Berthana. This in to be one of the great intellectual treats of the season. High school students will not soon forget Dr. Barker's definition of education: "A clean mind, a) strong arm and a courageous heart j to do the work today that should be done, whether I like it or not." The tryout debates to select a i One of the outstanding features of the Ogden High school is the very large number of clubs and organization that give students , opportunity to engage in various; activities.
