Show Monday Mar 17 24 Ogden High School Notes The Classicalia, artistically, financially and socally was a huge success. Everybody had a good time. There were probably more than 1,500 people at the Classicalia, declared to be the largest crowd that ever attended any function at the Berthana. The beautiful Berthana proved- to be an ideal place in which to hold the school's greatest social function. We express to Mr. Goss 1 and the management our sincere appreciation for the courtesies extended. PRAISE FOR ALL. Too much praise could hardly be given to Miss Evelyn Dobbs, chairman of the general Classicalia committee, for her untiring j and efficient labors in managing ! the Classicalia. No detail was neglected and everything was so care- : fully planned that, given the crowd, the event was sure to be a ) success. The crowd was there, and the Classicalia of 1924 must go down in high school history i as one of the greatest. j Earl Murray, manager of the Classicum, is entitled to much praise for his splendid work in ; putting over the Classicalia. Earl i j is a good manager and was on the job every minute. More than a score of people, students and teachers, are deserv- iing of special mention for their loyalty and school patriotism and unceasing labors in making the Classicalia a success. They were right back of Chairman Dobbs i and Manager Murray, and are en- I titled to the hearty thanks and j appreciation of every member of I the school. : There were some very clever, unique and beautiful costumes at j : the Classicalia. One would never j tire of studying the happy mot- : ! ley of revelers as they whisked about in the great carnival. The j visitors on the side lines, we dare i say, got quite as much enj'oy- . merit as the participants them- ! selves. O, boy, it was a great , night! BEAUTIFUL QUEEN. And what a beautiful Queen ; Genevieve Madsen made. No wonder Attorney S. P. Dobbs and many other prominent people begged the boon of kneeling be- fore the Queen and touching her : garment or bestowing a kiss on her hand; and the maids, too, how superbly beautiful in their magnificent gowns-each one seemed a Queen herself; The ceremonies were exquisitely beautiful. The honorable mayor, the members of the board of education, and many of Ogden's most promi- : nent citizens honored us with their presence Saturday night, and seemed to participate in our gayest of all moods. Thank you one - sad all. Come again. j It seemed mighty good to see f so many alumni at the carnival ! dance. They came from far and near to show that they have not forgotten the dear old Classicalia days. They were all pleased, too, to meet the same old spirit they . used to help engender. SALT LAKERS HERE. Quite a number of Salt Lake people came up to see what this "Classicalia" is. They were surprised and pleased. They didn't know Ogden had so many people as were present at the dance, nor did they know that there is such a beautiful dance hall in the West , as the beautiful Berthana. i The concessions were all well ' patronized at the party Saturday night, and there was scarcely a feature of the whole performance I but contributed to the thrill and j enjoyment of the evening. I If the notes do not have any- j thing but Classicalia today--everybody will know the reason. We are just reveling in the aftermath. A full report of the Classicalia ' will be given the faculty members at their meeting this afternoon. WHERE PROFITS GO. Maybe we better answer today the question we hear so frequently, "What do you do with all the money you make at the Classicalia?" We use it to help pay for the publication of the Classicum. The publication of our year book and of our magazine costs about $3,000. We get this sum from Classicalia, advertising and stu- dent body fees. It's a big effort to raise this sum but we usually ' prove equal to it, and rather enjoy it. In much the same way we meet expenses for the athletic de- j partment which cost about $2,000 ; per year. We believe money for : these affairs will come easier - hereafter as wef are confident that most students will buy student body tickets next fall. It pays and pays big to have a student body ticket. The Junior tea room was award- ed the prize for the most beautiful booth. Donnell Stewart and Gladys Ritchie received the prize for the most distinctive costumes. |
