The school council decided Tues- t day evening- to give a Classicalia matinee dance on. Friday after- 5 noon. Everyone attending this ; party will Have an opportunity of voting for the queen. , The school is encouraging students to. see the "Out-Doors in Utah" moving picture Friday and Saturday nights this week. We know too little of our native state and have but little appreciation i of its scenic beauties. The oral expression department I will unite with the music depart- j ment in the concert to be given next Tuesday night. Mr. Hinchcliff is determined to j put O. H. S. on the map, musically, and is going to make "An Hour of Music" slogan as familiar in Ogden as is the national slogan, "See America First." I The teachers of Salt Lake have undertaken the issuance of a. j 1 monthly. publication, "School Broadcastings."- Lizbeth M. Qualtrough is editor; William J. Astler, I business manager. Judging from j 11 the first issue, its aim seems to i ' be to broadcast all the good things 11 connected with the school system I -a very good idea. 1j Mr. Moore, steward of the Reed jj ; hotel, has invited O. H. S. stu- 5 i dents to visit the Spanish room at j the hotel next Tuesday afternoon j at 3 o'clock. Preliminary debating contests j are to be held in the school dur- ing the coming week. The pre- ; liminaries will result in the choice of an official Ogden High school ! j debating- team. The contests are j j to take place on the evening of j ;: March 3 and on the afternoon of j ! March 4. I There is to be a series of six! ! debates. Eighteen students will j participate. They are divided into j three teams, consisting of six stu- dents each. The six are divided j into teams of three. Three will bo I negative debaters and three are j to be affirmative debaters. The question will be: Resolved, That the Philippines should be given immediately the same form of government as exists in Cuba." : The teams are as follows: First team- '" j Negative-Lawrence Skeen, Lewis Iverson, Blaine Ramesden. Af- j . firmative-John O'Neill, Joseph Sangberg, Don Wakefield. Second team-Negative, Allison Smith, R. Hubbard, W. Taylor; ' affirmative, Tom Craven, Elmore j Burke, W. Gailbraith. Third team-Negative, D. Camp,! G. Wilson, Chester Hyland; af- ; l'irmative, Jake Reynolds, Ward Armstrong, F. Maurtensen. The first contest will eliminatej six of the 18 entrants. The sec- ond will result in the choice of I the final six, who will be mem- I bers of the team. The teacher's and students are' vitally interested in these debates, ' as school honor and pride are volved. In order that the fac- L ulty may be interested, they are ! to be given an opportunity to j judge the debates. The inter-school debates held ! annually between Ogden, Box Elder and Davis High schools, will f soon be held. Debating is soon to enter the lists of student activities as the basketball series is about over. |
