Show 3-19-24 Ogden High School Notes Twenty-three high scnuol teachers have signified their intention of going to summer school this summer. One-half of these will go to the National summer school at Logan, some to New York, others to California and still others will content themselves at "good old Chicago." Thirty-six teachers voted theI Classicalia a success. One was I neutral, two did not answer tiie ! question "How did you like it?" and one was "kept too busy to see it." Two-thirds of the high school teachers'voted that the Classicalia, : "aside from its financial accru- ment" is worthy of perpetuation because of "its immense popularity," "its enabling students, teachers, patrons and friends to get together in a good old-fashioned frolic,"its artistic and aesthetic app'eal," "its relief from humdrum, school life," etc. About one-fifth of the teachers question propriety of the Classicalia because of Its "moral dangers," "its rough aspect," "its noise and confusion," "ics motley mixture or the miscel- ; laneous crowd," "ks undesirable element that endangers," "its too tree, easy going manners." A third question, "How can the Classicalia be improved upon?" was likewise variously answered by the teachers. Several suggested "fewTer booths and more concentration on these," "limitation of invitations," "still closer supervision," "more of the beautiful and aesthetic and less of the crude and wild," "everybody costumed," etc. ONE BAD BREAK. Not all humor emanates from senior high school Students. A junior high teacher reported Tuesday that a science student told the class that electrocution is an undesirable method of killing because "death by electricity usually proves fatal." The music department has arranged for,the appearance of the famous Agricultural College Glee i club in concert on Friday evening, March 28. Manager Alyson Smith ordered suits today for track work, also awarded sweaters for football and , basketball boya. HISTORY TESTS. Aside from parents it is a very fine thing for every boy and every girl to have a friend or two among the grown-ups. The faculty Tuesday received a splendid letter from a prominent business man, a former scoutmaster, concerning one of our students. We quote a line or two: "At tlie Classicalia dance the writer put in most of his time mingling with the boys he knew, mindful lest some might forget. Contrary to the opinion of some, I know personally that had not been drinking. He reminded me more of one drunk with excitement of pleasure. He was in our scout troop for two years, during which time I grew very close to him. .... But he is as good as gold wlen one knows how to handle him." We should like more letters of this sort. How much better it is to be a friend to a boy, to believe in him and to help him, rather than to stand ide and eternally find fault, criticize and condemn, j |
