Show Dr. Charles E. Barker 2 - 28 - 24 Dr. BARKER TO BE CLUB GUEST Rotarians Entertain Noted Health Adviser and Lecturer Next Friday. Dr. Charles E. Barker, the man who kept the Hon. William Howard Taft in tiptop physical condition during his term at the White House; health adviser to Frank A. Vanderlip and other personages of national I prominence, and a nationally recognized lecturer for fathers and eons, mothers and daughters, will he in Salt Lake as the guest of the Rotary club on Friday, February 29, according to an announcement yesterday. Dr. Barker will speak to students of the East and West high schools on the morning of the twenty-ninth. At noon of the same day he will be a guest of the Rotary club at the Hotel Utah, and in the afternoon he will speak :to the students of the L. D. S. university. Dr. Barker's lecture for the general public will be made Sunday, March 2, at 8:15 o'clock at the Tabernacle, at which time he will dis- 1 cuss general health questions. It is estimated that Dr. Barker, Who is a doctor of hygiene and physical culture, has -been heard iby more than 4000 different audiences and that his words have reached the ears of more than two million people. He ; is a favorite speaker for high sohool children throughout this country and Canada, and It is said that more than 900,000 pupils have heard his addresses on the subject "How to Make the Most out of Life." Following liis attendance upon ex- President Taft, Dr. Barker became a health lecturer and traveled the country for some time, speaking to the general public. When Rotary international convened in Salt Lake in 1919 Dr. Barker was engaged to speak on "A Father's Responsibility to His Son," and so pronounced was the success of this lecutre that calls immediately came from all quarters of Rotary for the speaker, and since that time his addresses have been almost exclusively to and for Rotary. It is said of him that his addresses are exceptionally interesting to children and adults alike, for he is not the "dry orator," but enlivens his talks with words that drive the subject home and demonstrate in a practical way the value of the subject he stresses. To mothers he speaks of "A Mother's Responsibility to Her Daughter." Definite arrangements for the visit otf Dr. Barker are in the care of the Rotary club and will be announced by it probably Monday or Tuesday. |
