Show APRIL 30, 1924 OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES THOUGHT FOR TODAY. One thing is important in this world, one only-THOUGHT. Of all weaknesses, the worst, most dangerous, is FEAR.-Arthur Brisbane. Arthur Brisbane has been described for 20 years as the highest paid editor in America. Some one has said that you can send a, boy to high school, but you cannot make him think. A real school, however, is a place where more or less thinking goes on, and as thinking, like measles, is contagious, there is strong probability that cerebration might get started. Fear may be the worst, most dangerous weakness, but it is not j the most invidious one in high ! school. The "don't care spirit" j is the most dreaded evil found ! lurking about the class rooms. IMPRESSIVE SPEECH. ! Students were deeply moved ! Tuesday by the urgent appeal of Fred C. Taylor in the weekly as- j sembly to realize their possibili- ! ties and their opportunities. He i left with us the big lesson that happiness and success come riot I without effort and hard work; j that one may delude himself for a 1 time that "easy ways" and "crosscuts" are advisable but that sooner or later he is due for a real awakening. Miss Vera Purdy has attained that speed and proficiency in I typewriting which enables her to ! enter the contest conducted by the I Remington people. A Remington J machine is the prize to the winner. A number of students of the f bookkeeping department have filed i application and are preparing to I take examinations for civil ser- vice positions. TO PLAY IN THEATRE. i On Wednesday evening, May ; 7, the O. H. S. band will play at the Alhambra theatre. This will be one of the features of j music week. j Wednesday, May 21, has been j selected as Patrons' day at the j high school. It is desired that all patrons of the school visit that day to get acquainted with the teachers and the work that is being ' done. PARADE FRIDAY. I As a part of "Boys' Week" program every boy in the Ogden City j schools is requested to take part j in the annual parade on Friday morning. The R. O. T. C. will j give an exhibition immediately S following the parade. ORIGINAL NOTES FOR HIGH SCHOOL By Thelma Faulkner. Most of us do not realize our abilities until we have been test- ! ed by some crisis that calls for i immediate action, j We are all amateurs in the play of live until we have found a part that we "can act with sympathy and enthusiasm. Without the vision of perfection good work is impossible. We are living in the day of competition. To compete successfully, one should select some particular interest and then work whole-heartedly for the perfection of that interest. When a person talks of excellence as being common and abundant he immediately places upon himself the stamp of ignorances If you do not love, you do not live. Beauty goes hand and .hand with love. Each artist who creates a work of beauty shows his love for humanity. A woman member of the faculty was heard to describe herself yesterday as having reached that unfortunate age, when the young men are no longer interested, and yet too young for the old men to take notice of her. CONSERVING HEALTH. The "weeks" having all been set apart for special observances, a movement is now under way for setting apart special days for particular purposes. It is now proposed, for instance, that May day (the first day of May) be designated as a day for auditing child health in every community in the United States. In support of such a plan it is pointed out that five nations beat us in conserving child life, as proved by the death rate.
