They j will attend the Girls' Collegiate in- j stitute there the second semester, j The American Chemical society, i Munson building, New York, is of- ; fering $10,000 in cash prizes, and! six four-year scholarships in Yale or Vassar, each carrying $500 in cash, tuition free, in an essay contest open to all secondary schools, on any one of the following sub-1 Jects: "The Relation of Chemistry to Health and Disease," "The Relation of Chemistry to the Enrichment of Life," "The Relation of Chemistry to Agriculture and Forestry," "The Relation of Chemistry to National Defense," "The Relation of Chemistry to the Home" j and "The Relation of Chemistry to the Development of the Industries and Resources of Utah." A goodly number of students are Interesting themselves in this contest. The high school library acknowledges receipt of the following books from the American Chemical society: "The Life of Pasteur" by Vallery-Radot; "Creative Chemistry," Edwin P. Slosson; "The Riddle of the Rhine," Victor Llfebure; "Discovery-the Spirit and Service of Science," Gregory; "The Future Independence . and Progress of i American Medicine in the Age of Chemistry," Slosson; "Science Remaking the World," Caldwell. Nine boys and 23 girls are rated as highest honor students for the first sem,ester. None of these had a mai-k lower than E: Gordon Agee, Theron Jost, Henry O'Keefe, Junior Petterson, Jake Reynolds, Laurence Skeen, Garff "Wilson, Wllford Young, Benjamin Jones, Viola Allen, Marjorle Bell, Louise Browning, Judith Brody, Miriam Cain, Thelma Faulkner, Virginia Green, Florence Hammers, Fein Lipscomb, Ruth Merrill, Anesa Malouf, Greldon Nelson, Vera Purdie, Kyle ' Passey, Edith Pack, Thelma Scoville, Blanche Scowcroft, Althea Thomas, Dorothy Vail, Mae Walker, Martha Wright, Alice Wilson, Alice Pack. About thirty members of the Commercial club made an excursion to the Sperry mills on Thursday last. They were shown every courtesy by the employes there. Miiss Chipman took her hygiene and sanitation class to the community clinic on Monday afternoon. Dr. Draper gave a number of the girls a physical examination. The student body council met Tuesday night and appointed the following committee to co-operate with the faculty committee on the Classocalia: Earl Murray, John McNeil, Bill Petty, Jean Chez, Bonita Scowcroft, Alyson Smith and Fred Gentsch. At 1 o'clock today every class in the high school paused in their work to pay homage and tribute to ex-President Woodrow Wilson. In most cases the students took charge of the exercises which lasted 20 minutes. |
