Show Wed 2 - 27 24 Ogden High School Notes A short pep rally was new u- day 1:15 o'clock to get ready for tonight's game. It is presumed that fully 90 per cent of the student body will bein attendance. Lester Hinchcliff was exhibiting today a picture of the O. H. S. j orchestra of 1908, of which he was) a member. In that picture is exhibited a large bass Viol which Mr Hinchcliff avers was purchased by tne orchestra and presented to the school. We wonder if anyone in Ogden can tell us what became of that instrument. It surely would come m handy, right now. Mr. Hinchcliff also reports that the 1908 orchestra purchased a trombone. W-e hbuld like to get that back too, if anyone can locate it for us. The high school received today a bunch of blotters complimentary from the Scoville Press. This of itself, perhaps isn't worth mentioning as we receive such frequently from many places; but these are different. They speak for a more beautiful Ogden. On the ! back is a picture of the beautiful new Spanish room at the Reed hotel. Across it is printed, "Do it for Ogden." Below a descriptive j paragraph-from which we quote: " 'Like and like go together,' runs an old saw, and since architecture is frozen music, the delectable frozen dainties of the Spanish room are as appealing as the melodies of Schubert. Jazz at meals, with a blast from the trombone, is apt to l upset the soup, or the stomach or j both. Not so with interior harmon- i ies. They make up the amenities of art arid appetite, ministering gently but memorably to the guest, j So here's to the Spanish room; it's' another touch added to Ogden, and another proof of faith in the value j of architecture and interior decora- I tion." Ogden needs more boosters like the Scoville Press. It needs education in the appreciation of beautiful things. In order that students may have an opportunity of viewing the beautiful room, Mr. Moore, the steward at the hotel, is arranging an afternoon for them. Speaking of the beauty of the Spanish room, reminds one of the beautiful Spanish hallway of the West Side High school in Salt Lake. Ogden students and people gener- ally should avail themselves of seeing this beautiful arcade. It's well worth the trouble. Art appreciation is taking a strong hold of O. H. S. students I , ! these days. The Girls' association j is talking strongly of purchasing j one of Mr. Stewart's landscape pictures for the school, and as beginning for an art gallery at the school. The R. O. T. C. boys enjoyed a film picture Tuesday of the Browning machine gun. The picture detailed its construction, operation and use under various conditions and proved very interesting. Some one asked if Dr. Charles Herbert Livermore, winner of the Bok prize, were wealthy. Dr. Livermore, hearing of the inquiry simply said, "I have been a school teacher 1 for many years: that ought to answer the question." A man said recently, "Alas! our schools and colleges are becoming! so full nowadays that no one is getting an education." Ogden schools are threatened. No high school teacher can do jus- i tice to 175 students per day! A bunch of enthusiastic high school boosters made a vow last Friday night not to shave until after the try-out game. The consequences of the vow are much in evidence. ! The Gamma Kappa girls conducted a candy sale at noon and ' j after school on Monday. The Forum debate on Monday evening was of unusual importance, The subject was, "Resolved, That Icabod Crane would make a better husband than Rip Van Winkle." Rip won. Frank Mouritzen, after a try-out, debate, was admitted to the waiting' : list of the club. , Try-outs for the school debating team will be held next week, according to announcement, of Joe Sandberg, debating manager. This i question is to be debated, "Re- i solved, That the Philippines be im- mediately given the same form of!, government as exists in Cuba." |
