Show The North Slaterville Irrigation Company only had a half ditch of water this summer. Mill Creek has been at half capacity. Residents' main complaint using the pressurized ponds is not having enough to water their lawns. Drought restrictions were posted in the newsletter. The unusually hot weather continued in September, prompting a reminder in the September 2013 Issue of The Pioneer Post, of the necessity of conserving water. This summer the Weber-Box Elder Conservation District issued water restrictions for residents using pressurized irrigation in Farr West and Plain City, with some places cut down 50% in water availability. Our city was not included In these restrictions, but residents are encouraged to follow the practice of watering before 10:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. Nonresidential users should learn the best times to water so that pressure can be stabilized. All are asked to please avoid over watering, and to consider watering every other day. Resident Concerns Up-to-date information and advice on the always recurring situations in our community help us be prepared. Roads Mayor Butler advised that snow plowing cost the city more this year because of the heavy snow experienced. The city attempted to take care of pot holes during the cold weather. They were properly filled when the asphalt plant opened for the season. Weber County hot patched roads when the plants opened and weather permitted. Several of the council commented on how well the roads have been plowed this winter. Citizens were thanked in the Pioneer Post, for their patience with the inconvenience of heavy snow and ice storms, and for their appreciation shown the county road crews as they worked so hard on the plowing. Residents keeping cars off the roads so the snow plows could do their job, were also thanked. This is Utah, and as anyone who has lived here long knows, weather can change dally. Beautiful fall weather such as we had this year can quickly change to winter. The November 2013 issue of The Pioneer Post reminded residents of this fact, and reiterated advice for winter weather. First, please drive with caution when snow comes. It is illegal to park on the side of the road during and after a snowstorm because Weber County will be snow plowing the roads. Parked vehicles Impeding the plowing may be towed at owner's expense or ticketed. The most traveled roads are plowed first, with subdivisions and the least traveled roads last. Home and business owners with sidewalk are responsible to remove snow from the sidewalk within 24 hours after a snowstorm. Residents are asked to remove garbage cans from the road soon after collection. Mr. Morris said that city staff would like to try the Utellte Lightweight Aggregate Chip Seal on the roads, which goes further and lasts longer than the normal chip and seal, it doesn't have the rock chips which breaks windshields. It Is a ceramic and has a better skid resistance for longer wear.
