Show After the presentation of the Community Awards, the Council Meeting on December 19, 2013, was adjourned for the annual Christmas Party for elected officials, staff, and volunteers. A dinner, catered by Bella's, was served in the Senior Center for about 70 people. Becky Burt can again be thanked for an evening of fun and food. Community Awards A request for residents to nominate a person or business in the community for our annua! awards was made in the November Pioneer Post. The deadline for nominations was December 2, 2013, at the City Offices, with the nomination accompanied by a short supporting statement. Award categories include the Good Neighbor Award, the Elna Lucas Community Culture/History Award, the H. Orvil Holley Youth Leadership Award, and the Darrell Mecham Community Service Award. Orvil Holley Youth David Bodily Family Joan and Gerald Taylor Darrell Mecham Community Service David Bodily Family Special Notes Residents of Marriott-Slaterville extended condolences to Mayor Keith Butler and his family, on the death of his wife, Geraldine "Jerri" Butler, on August 21, 2013, following a long illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. At the March 21, 2013, City Council Meeting City Administrator Bill Morris gave the annual training presentation on Unlawful Discrimination and Sexual Harassment Prevention, and outlined the process of filing and processing a complaint. He then gave the annual training presentation on the Open Meeting Act. Mr. Morris also gave a presentation of Public Works Education and Outreach, relating to storm water and sewer, Utah Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (UPDES), and Utah Sewer Management Program (USMP). He answered questions from the council on all the presentations. At the City Council Meeting held on August 15, 2013, the council listened to a voice mail received by Mr. Morris from Governor Herbert's staff thanking him for his letter to the Governor on the Business License Review. The City Council will be invited to meet the Governor for a photo shoot and to received the "Business Hendry Community Award." A reception was held on October 3, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Gold Room at the State Capitol for the awarding of the "Utah Governor's Business Friendly Community" designation to Marriott- Slaterville City. City Administrator Bill Morris, Councilmen Scott VanLeeuwen, Dennis Illum, Rob Smout and Kim Slater attended. A video of the presentation was available on the internet. 21 |
