Show Marriottj-Slaterville History February 2013 briefly. The city will reserve a public access easement over the parcel that is being traded. The trade was approved unanimously. Mayor Butler advised that snow plowing will cost the city more this year because of the heavy snow experienced. The city is attempting to take care of pot holes during this cold weather. They will be properly filled when the asphalt plant opens for the season. Budget is down about 11% from last year due to the lack of building permits and impact fees. The Mayor presented the council with a picture donated by Mr. Orvil Holley of the Slaterville L. D. S. Church Sunday School taken in 1938 or 1939. Councilman Kim Slater said that the Mosquito District is hiring a new manager. Several of the council commented on how well the roads have been plowed this winter. Citizens were thanked in the Pioneer Post, for their patience with the inconvenience of heavy snow and ice storms, and for their appreciation shown the county road crews as they worked so hard on the plowing. Residents keeping the cars off the roads so the snow plows could do their job, were also thanked. February is Hearth Health Awareness Month and Live Well, Senior's Health, a Newsletter by Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital Center gave valuable information. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women with more women than men dying from heart disease since 1984. Previously most attention has been on men for heart disease, but women need to recognize signs of heart problems. Advice for everyone: Don't smoke. Keep your blood pressure under control. Manage your blood sugar. Lower your cholesterol. Know your family history. Stay active. Lose weight. Eat healthy. Guidelines on starting an exercise program were also given. Bits and Pieces On February 4, 2013, James Ellis, of our city, was involved in an auto accident on 1-15 when his vehicle was hit by a vehicle veering into his lane. Robert William Covey, age 57, died on February 19, 2013. Glenda "Luana" Jameson Rice, died on February 23, 2013, at the age of 81. Congratulations to BreAnn Neil, Abi Neil, Daelynn Sagapolu, and Camille Lewis, members of the Wahlquist Jr. High's National Academic League Team, who took first place i n the Weber School District. They will compete at the national level. Grideli's announced a 1 year anniversary celebration at their site in Marriott-Slaterville. 109 |
