Show Emergencies Although no flooding problems occurred, the City continued to work with Weber County for future flood conditions. We now have our own supply of sandbags for such a disaster. President Dennis Illum reported that he, Trent Meyerhoffer, and Kim Slater had been watching Mill Creek about rising water problems. At the May 16, 2013, City Council Meeting, Mr. Meyerhoffer reported that he has assisted the county the past two weeks in removing beaver dams and obstructions on Mill Creek below 2800 West to the Weber River, which has been time-consuming and extensive work. Citizens were advised to prepare our family for disasters such as flood, severe weather, earthquakes, hazardous material spills, or major acts of violence. You could be forced from your home or neighborhood. Loca! officials, volunteers, and relief workers will help, but cannot reach everyone immediately. Steps to prepare now for disaster are: Find out what types of disaster could happen around you. Create a disaster plan. Practice your plan. Information for disaster preparation can be found at http://www.fema.gov or www.redcross.org. In the February 2013 issue of The Pioneer Post, Gerald Bischoff, Emergency Management, gave some winter safety tips. Ice dams are an accumulation of ice at the lower edge of a sloped roof. Interior heat melts the snow on the roof and the water can run down to the roofs edge, and refreeze there where it's much cooler. If the ice build up blocks water from draining off the roof, water is forced under the roof covering and Into the attic or the Inside walls of the house. To reduce this risk: Make sure your gutters are clear of leaves and debris. Keep the attic well-ventilated so snow doesn't melt and refreeze at the edge. Make sure the attic floor is well insulated to minimize the amount of heat rising through the attic from within the house. Bursting pipes occur when frozen water causes a pressure buildup between the ice blockage and the closed faucet. Pipes in attics, crawl spaces, and outside walls are particularly vulnerable. To keep water In your pipes from freezing: Fit exposed pipes with insulation sleeves or wrapping to slow heat transfer. Seal cracks and holes In outside walls and foundations near water pipes with caulking. Keep cabinet doors open to allow warm air to circulate around pipes. Keep a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets connected to pipes that run through an unprotected space. Crime At the March 21, 2013, City Council Meeting, Lt. Morrow from the Weber County Sheriff Office, North Precinct, introduced the law enforcement officers who work the North Precinct. Those included: Deputy Marie Garcia, Sgt. Mike Chatelain, Deputy Ryan Reed, Sgt. Brent Butler, Sgt. Mike Strecker, Sgt. Lane Findlay, Corporal Dave Mancinis, Sgt. Chris Stetler, Deputy Craig Tillet, Deputy Paul Palinsky and Deputy Tyrell Dalton. Sgt. Findlay gave the Sheriff's Office First Quarter statistics and answered questions from the City council. At the April 18, 2013, City Council Meeting, Mr. Morris advised that there has been vandalism on the restrooms at the City Office Park, a picnic table was destroyed, and graffiti was made on the doors that Includes 17 |
