Show The Pioneer Post Volume XV Issue 1 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter January 2013 1570 West 400 North - Phone 801-627-1919 State of the City by Keith H. Butler, Mayor The last year came and went so quickly that the months passed like pages in a book. We were fortunate not to relive the flood disaster of the prior year. Our city is continuing to work with Weber County to prepare for the next flood. WTe now have on reserve our own supply of sandbags so that we will not need to rely entirely on supplies from other cities or the county. Our volunteers are ready to help when called upon should a disaster strike. At our last city council meeting the Independent Auditor presented the audit findings from the last fiscal year. I am pleased to report that the city remains in good financial condition. The city still has no debt and no municipal property tax. We currently have enough revenues to meet expenditures. Because of increased costs associated with the sheriff contract, business license fees were increased to bring them up to current day costs. Prior fees were 12 years old and not updated with rising costs of law enforcement. Our city staff has been very successful at obtaining grant funding for projects. Last fall the city completed a one mile extension of the trail along the Weber River ending at 1900 West. Two bridges were installed with this join project with West Haven City. This project has been very popular and the city has receive much thanks and appreciation from trail enthusiasts in the county. I am also pleased that we have a cooperative relationship with all of the cities in Weber County. This year our city staff obtained grant funding to complete various public improvements including expansion of one of the secondary water ponds near 1200 West, curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements, and park improvements on 700 South. These improvements are needed and the grant funds will defray much of the expenses. We look forward to the challenges that this New Year will bring. Our dedicated staff works to continue to provide affordable and valued services. Our parks and events are wonderful successes. Thanks to the many volunteers who help their neighbors and community. May you have a wonderful new year. _____ Your Family Disaster Plan Disaster can strike quickly and without warning.
