Show The October 17, 2013, regularly scheduled City Counci! Meeting was cancelled on or about October 10, 2013, with those involved notified, and the notice posted on the Utah Public Meeting Notice Website, and posted in three (3) public places in the community, as required. Staff and Council members didn't lack for pressing activities, as all were Involved In assignments for the Trunk-or-Treat event. Vice President of the City Council Scott VanLeeuwen conducted the City Council Meeting on Thursday, November 21, 2013, as President Dennis Illum was in a serious automobile accident the previous night and was in the hospital. The 2014 meeting schedule was approved at the November 21, 2013, City Council Meeting. Senior Activities The Senior Center continued to offer Senior lunches every Tuesday. Yoga and line dancing are held weekly in the Senior Center. The McKay-Dee Hospital brings various health screenings to the Center, and delivers their newsletter LiVe Well advising on senior health problems and diseases, information this past year covered the following. February is Hearth Health Awareness Month and LiVe Well, Senior's Health, a Newsletter by Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital Center gave valuable information. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women with more women than men dying from heart disease since 1984. Previously most attention has been on men for heart disease, but women need to recognize signs of heart problems. Advice for everyone: Don't smoke. Keep your blood pressure under control. Manage your blood sugar. Lower your cholesterol. Know your family history Stay active. Lose weight. Eat healthy. Guidelines on starting an exercise program were also given. The Senior's Health Newsletter, LiVe Well, encouraged awareness of Colorectal Cancer In March 2013. Everyone 50 years old or older should be screened. Symptoms of colon cancer may include: Blood in the stool Stomach cramps, aches or pain that doesn't go away. Losing weight when you don't know why Fatigue Prevention includes maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, being physically active for at least 30 minutes a day 5 days a week, limiting alcohol Intake, eating less red meat and cutting out processed meat, and eating more fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Primary care providers can refer patients who qualify for a free colonoscopy through Utah Cancer Control Program. A back pain and Bingo Party was a free Senior event on March 29, 2013, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Green Auditorium a McKay Dee Hospital. Elder abuse was the subject of LiVe Well, the McKay Dee Hospital Seniors Health Newsletter for April. There may be as many as 5 million victims each year, and numbers are increasing Signs of a problem could include slap marks, pressure marks, some burns, withdrawal from normal activities or unusual behavior, bruising around the breasts or genital areas, sudden changes in finances, altered wills and trusts, unusual 22 |
