Show Marriott-Slaterville History June 2013 Chris Mantas, CEO Tear-A-Part Auto Recycling, presented his Concept Plan to the council. He explained the company background and history, along with his sustainability program, community benefits concepts, management practices, recycling process and products, vehicle processing, and retail area. He hopes to have a full service facility in our city like he does in Salt Lake. All vehicles entering the facility will be behind a solid fence. They will only purchase vehicles at this facility, Scrap metal will not be bought, as he is not in the scrap metal business. Upon a question from Councilman Deibert Hodson, Mr. Mantas said he differs from A-1 Salvage on 17th Street in that his facility is cleaner, and further outlined some differences. Pres. Illum advised that this is an ordinance, not a site plan, and must be considered from that perspective. Mr. Morris explained that this ordinance is to limit such operations to the Central Business District and by population. On a roll call, Mr. Kim Slater, voted aye, Mr. Hodson, nay, Mr. Scott VanLeeuwen, aye, and President Ilium, nay. Mr. Rob Smout was absent. With the vote tied 2-2, the Ordinance failed to pass. President asked that the Ordinance be placed on the August 2013 agenda for reconsideration when Mr. Smout would be present. In answer to letters from the Weber County Elections Director regarding the polling location and poll workers for the November 2013 municipal election, the Council voted to appoint the poll workers and poll location recommended by the county. The upcoming Fourth of July celebratbn and various activities were discussed by the council. Council members will assume the same jobs as last year. It was decided to purchase the tables needed for the city for the event rather than borrow them. The annual Independence Day activities were announced for 2013, in the June issue of The Pioneer Post, including the annual golf tournament, 5K run, breakfasts, parade and lunch and activities at the Marriott Park. We look forward to this celebratbn every year. Mayor Butler thanked the city intern, Christian Barbiero, who has volunteered and helped with many city operations during the past two months. Mr. Hodson expressed concern with the items placed in the Marriott Park dumpsters. Mr. Slater feels that the parking at the Slaterville Park for private events is a traffic hazard. A closed executive session on the discussion of the character, professional competence, and physical and mental health of an individual was held. June 2013 became one of the hottest Junes on record, with several days of triple digit temperatures occurring. This exacerbated the problem of poor water supplies in our reservoirs, which was also worsened by low rainfall in June. The low snowpack resulted in water restrictions early in the season. The Weber Basin Water Conservancy District recommended the folbwing: 1. No irrigation sprinkling between 12:00 noon and 5:00 p.m., except for emergency. 2. No wasting water. 3. Repair leaks. 4. No watering in rainstorms. 5. No watering that results in run-off on neighbors yards or property, streets, or sidewalks, or that creates a pool or standing water. 6. No using irrigation water for non-irrigation purposes. Those who are part of an irrigation company and flood irrigate are subject to restrictions enforced by the company. The Municipal election Candidate Filing Period was from June 3-7, 2013. Offices to be filled include the mayor, and a councilman from both the East and West Districts. Garbage fees will increase on July 1, with the first can $12.75 and the second one $4.50. 120 |
