BUDGET AND PROJECTS The City Council adopted the City's budget for Fiscal Year 2013-14 at its June meeting. After several months of budget planning, the Mayor again presented a balanced budget to the City Council. The new budget includes a modest surplus that will be set aside for future capital projects. Marriott-Slaterville City is one of the few cities in the state that operates without a municipal property tax. The no property tax policy will continue with this new budget. A small fee increase for residential garbage service and for non-resident park reservations was included in the budget and approved. The City completed its trail project along the Weber River last fall. This is the first full season that this new river trail segment in our City is open for public use. Thank you for the tremendous positive response and support for this trail project. This trail was made possible by donations from local businesses and a $500,000 grant from the county R.A.M.P. program. Currently, the City is completing improvements at Marriott Park and the new Heritage Park Storm Water Basin on 700 South. This project is funded by the Community Development Block Grant program. This project also included the expansion of the Quail Meadows Secondary Water Reservoir near 1300 West and 900 South. This reservoir was nearly doubled in capacity and now has the capability to provide pressurized secondary water to residents and businesses between 700 South and 12th Street. The City has completed numerous road improvements, infrastructure projects, open space preservation, park improvements, and irrigation projects over the last 13 years. All these projects were made possible from the diligent efforts of city staff in seeking and obtaining grant funds. City staff has obtained around $10,000,000 in grant funds for various community projects over that same time. The city administration and officials will continue to work to provide efficient and effective services and improvements in the community. The city recognizes its many volunteers who help in multiple capacities ranging from community events, to serving on boards and commissions, to gardening. These volunteers are central in continuing the creation of the beautiful community we enjoy today. Local Updates Parks. Our community parks are popular for residents and non-resident alike. A park bowery may be reserved for private events. A half day reservation costs $25 for residents, and $50 for non-residents. Contact the city office at 801-627-1919 to make a reservation. Elections. The candidates for the municipal election this November include: Keith Butler and Randy Phipps for Mayor. Deibert Hodson and Steven Mecham for Council East District. Kim Slater and Erin Holley for Council West District. PLANNING COMMISSION TUESDAY, JULY 16,2013 - 7:00 P.M. ***This meeting may be cancelled*** This agenda is tentative. Items can and will change.
