Show Accidents on 1900 West, May 5, 2013 Two-car crash injures three MARRIOTT- SLATERVILLE—Three people were taken to McKay- Dee Hospital on Saturday after a car crash that sent one car head-on into a ditch. Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Streker said that around 7:10 p.m., a maroon Toyota Camry was going north in the middle turn lane on 1900 West, preparing to turn onto 700 South. A red Honda, which witnesses said was going about 55 miles per hour, rear-ended the Camry. The Honda continued north for several yards after impact and ended up in a ditch off the road. The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital with a head laceration, and the passenger was transported with unknown injuries that did not appear life-threatening, Streker said. The female driver of the Camry was transported with stomach pains. The names of those involved were not available. Driver of flipped car feels lucky' MARRIOTT- SLATERVILLE —A 19-year- old man felt fortunate to be unhurt late Friday after flipping his car in a crash. Cooper Kelley said he was driving north on 1900 West around 9:20 p.m., when another car, going in the opposite direction, tried to turn ahead of him onto 12th Street. The other car hit Kelley's car on the driver's side, and Kelley's car flipped onto its hood and landed off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The driver of the other car, who was identified as a juvenile, declined to comment. "I just feel pretty lucky," Cooper said. "I feel blessed everyone is OK." May !0, Speaker 2013 185 Smith & Edwards cofounder to speak OGDEN — Orrin Porter Rockwell, personal bodyguard to LDS Church Presidents Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, will be a topic of conversation at this month's Ogden Pioneer Chapter Sons of the Utah Pioneers meeting. The meeting is at noon Monday at Comfort Suites Inn, 21st Street and Interstate 15 (2250 S. 1200 West). Bert N. Smith will speak on ancestor Lot Smith, a pioneer and friend of Rockwell, said Carlton Schultz, pioneer chapter spokesman in a news release. Smith, 93, of Ogden, is cofounder of the Smith & Edwards store in Ogden. While in the Marines during World War II, Smith met fellow Utahn Lawrence Edwards. The pair were in the Pacific on Guam and as the war ended, they observed the US. military dumping good war materials into the ocean to get rid of it. The pair then established their business in 1947 Smith is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a great supporter of the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo, the release states. Potential chapter members are welcome to attend with the cost of their lunch to be paid by the chapter. For other guests, there is a $12.50 charge. |
