Show Deacon James Jackson, Sr. Earthly Life - May 28, 1923 Eternal Life - May 20, 2012 Deacon James Jackson, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather transitioned from this life to everlasting life with his heavenly father on May 20, 2012. “Jackson” as he was fondly called was born on May 28, 1923, in Oktaha, OK to Lula Mae Fisher and Andrew Jackson. When he was three years old, his mother married Arthur (A.C. Collins) who claimed him as his own. He (earned a strong work ethic at an early age by having to help out on the family farm. He attended Monday Chapel School in New Hope where their family land was located known as “Fisher Hull’. He was raised by a Christian family and accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at an early age. He was a dedicated church worker at the First Baptist Church in Summit serving on the Usher Board, organizing the Junior Usher Board and singing in a quartet which traveled from church to church singing praises to the Lord. He met Ida M. Boyd and was married on February 4, 1943. That union produced four children: Judith Marie Boyd, Jerolyn D. Jackson, James C. Jackson, Jr. & Jacqueline £. Jackson. After relocating to Salt Lake City in 1951, the Jackson family united with the Calvary Baptist Church where they could continue serving the Lord. His love for children encouraged him to become active in children ministries at Calvary. He was the counselor for the Junior Laymen for many years. He organized and trained the Junior Usher Board, coached the Calvary Baptist Church basketball team, (eading them to take first place in an inter-racial, inter-faith church league where the first place trophy was smaller than the second place trophy. Nevertheless he was undaunted. He also coached his daughter, “Jacci’s” softball team. Bro. Jackson had a passion for singing and this passion lead him to organize the Male Chorus at Calvary Baptist Church. He sang with that group until his health would not allow him to participate. |
