Show Our beloved mother and grandmother, Modestine Carpenter, a woman of grace, strength, and full of God's mercy, returned to her Heavenly home on January 26, 2016. She was born on June 28, 1928 in Tyler, IX to Oscar K, Truesdell and Lillie Bell Travis. Modestine married her sweetheart, John £. Carpenter on July 4, 1946. They spent 55 wonderful years together until his passing in 2001. She lived the first part of her life in Tyler, IX and has made Ogden her home for the last 63 years. She was a faithful member of the New Zion Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She served as a Deaconess, President of the Missionary Society, a member of the Willing Workers Club, worked many years in the Culinary Ministry, and was a Sunday School Teacher. Modestine retired from KMart after 22 years. She also worked for Futures Through Choice. She enjoyed puzzles, cross stitch, cooking, and canning. She loved spending time with her family and friends sitting on her porch. She is survived by her children, Dr. Donald R, Carpenter, Randolph (Bobette) Carpenter, Johnny (Sabrina) Carpenter, Linda (Lorenzo) Carter, Sheila Carpenter, Steven (Sandra) Carpenter, Byron (Natalie) Carpenter, Michael (Cynthia) Carpenter, Douglas (Robin) Carpenter, and Dennis (Cashawn) Carpenter; 38 grandchildren, and a host of great and greatgreat grandchildren; brother, Carl Jones; sister, Aneta Williams; and her very close friend, Bina McCowan. I'm pressing on the upward way, New heights I'm gaining every day; Still praying as I'm onward bound, Lord, plant my feet on higher ground. Lord, lift me up and let me stand, By faith, on Heaven's tableland, A higher plan than I have found; Lord, plant my feet on higher ground. My heart has no desire to stay Where doubts arise and fears dismay, Though some may dwell where those abound, My prayer, my aim, 1s higher ground. |
