Show James Oliver Hill Ogden — James Oliver Hill, age 91, passed away Sunday morning April 24, 2016 at McKay Dee Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born June 22, 1924 in Dallas, Texas. He was the first of 11 children born to James and Flossie Fern Burdine Hill. He married Lurene Norwood, they later divorced. He married Eliza Jones Lamb on July 12, 1968. She preceded him in death. | James was raised in Cresent, OK. He attended Frazier Elementary and Douglas High Schools. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943, served during WWII, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He moved to Wichita, KS and eventually settled in UT. He was employed by Job Corp, but achieved a lifelong dream when he started his own business, Hill and Hill Auto Repair. He was a faithful member of Finley Temple COGIC where he served as a deacon, was on the finance committee, worked in the men’s ministry and helped with Church maintenance. James was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener; he also liked to paint with water colors and was gifted at making things. Due to failing health, his last few years were spent in care facilities; he last resided at George Wahlen Veterans Center, where he spent time playing card and board games, making small trinkets, and socializing with fellow veterans. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Woodard of Lake Elsinore, CA; his only sister, Mae Glynn of Ogden; brothers, Cecil, Leontra, and Glenn all of Ogden, Carleice (Mary), Wichita KS, and Sherman (Lynn) of Cresent OK; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eliza; four brothers, Carl, Nathaniel, Truman and Charles; and two stepsons, Lamar and Keith Lamb. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. A viewing will be held prior to services from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Special thanks to George Wahlen Veterans Center for their outstanding care.
