Show Obituary Vernie Rene Burton Steverson February 15, 1945 ~ December 31, 2017 ie vle.okars> Vernie Rene Burton-Steverson was born in Falcon, Arkansas to Chest Burton Jr. and Lenora Dockery Burton. Vernie relocated to Ogden, Utah along with her parents in 1947. She was the eldest of 10 children. She attended Ogden City Schools and was a cheerleader at Washington ; High. She attended Ogden High School where she was a member of the Acapella Choir. Vernie graduated from Ogden High 1s 1963. The following school year she attended Weber State College as an English Major. Vernie was also a contestant in the Miss Ogden Beauty Pageant. She was active church functions and was an Usher at New Zion Baptist Church and served in the capacity of Choir Director for both the Youth and Adult Choirs. She was a trained pianist. Vernie was briefly married to Lorenzo T. Bell, Jr. in 1966, two children were born to this union. She later married Conrad James Steverson on November 3, 1971 in Las Vegas, Nevada. in March 2017. They resided in Layton, Utah until his passing Vernie was employed for 20 years at Hercules Aerospace Division. She was also employed with the Wonder Bread Co. and Futura at the Freeport Center. Vernie leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Shawnta (Joe) Chavis I, Omaha, Nebraska; her son N-Gai (Danyel) Steverson, Layton, Utah; sisters, Nayytrah Madyun, Charlotte, NC; Sharon Burton (Waldo) Danzy, Ogden, Utah; brothers Kenneth (LaDonna) Burton, Nashville, TN; Chest Burton III, Ogden, Utah. Also 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents and siblings: Minnie Roberts, Jannet Burton, Jennett Burton, Lorraine Burton-Cooper and brother-in-law Pender Maydun. Vernie loved the news, football, God and Family and was an avid collector of fine furniture. She had great humor and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. |
