Show He was a faithful member of his church and served faithfully anywhere he was needed. His primary area of service was the Layman Ministry. On October 30, 2009, he received recognition for his “outstanding and dedicated” service was a Layman and Vice President in the Intermountain General Baptist Convention and New Zion Baptist Church. As President of the Wall Avenue Community Center in the 1940’s, Marion was instrumental in African-Americans being allowed to swim in the Lorin Farr Park swimming pool. He also served many years a member and Vice President of the NAACP. Marion will be deeply missed and we will suffer from the loss of this great hero, but he leaves a wonderful and lasting legacy for not only his family, but for all who Knew him. Marion is survived by his three cherished daughters, Patricia Ann (Chuck) Jones, Gloria Yvonne Tucker and Alexa Lee Carter: dutiful nephew, Jerry Carter III; four precious grandchildren, Vincent Edward Green, Trae Lee Tucker, Jinjer Moniquie Bowden and Charles Jones Ill; five treasured great-grandchildren, Brand’e Carter, Charles Jones IV, Miyah Sad’e Jones, Mekhi Charles Jones, and Kamora Elizabeth Jones and was exceedingly blessed with three great-great-grandsons, Jayden Carter, Jayshawn Carter, and Sederian Carter; and nephew, Kary Carter; as well as grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Jerry Carter I| affectionately called “Sonny Boy”; older sister, Opal Bell; sistersin-law, Mildred Carter and Johnny Carter; his niece, Sharon Carter; and nephews, Randy Scott and Christy Carter. Heartfelt gratitude to Nathaniel Johnson for all your visits and phone calls. To Frank and Desseria Satterwhite, for always being there with open arms and to Ellen Head, fourth Carter girl, can’t ever thank you enough for your faithful support to Marion and his family, all of you please know your friendship meant a lot to Marion. The family would also like to thank all those who gave their care, love, prayers, and precious time. May God continue to bless you all! Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. |
