Show Marion Glen Carter October 1, 1918 ~ January 12, 2017 Our beloved family patriarch, Marion Glen “The Rock” Carter of Washington Terrace, passed peacefully, and with © grace, from this mortal realm at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions in North Ogden on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the age of 98. Marion was born October 1, 1918, in Davenport, Iowa. The devoted son of the : | late Jerry and Eva Lee Bell | Carter. His entrepreneurial | parents made a home, along | with other real estate investments, in Ogden, Utah, in the early 1930s for Marion and his younger brother, who saw him as a father figure, where they were raised and schooled. Marion met, who would give him the purpose of his life, “The Beautiful in every | way” Zelma Lee Clay, from Rs | Se e Fort Worth, Texas in 1945. After a time of courtship, Marion traveled all the way from Ogden to Fort Worth just to ask Zelma’s parents for her hand in marriage. They were married April 8, 1948, and resided together in Ogden until her death separated them Sunday morning, April 10, 2011. : He retired on August 29, 1980, as a shift foreman in the Central Boiler Plant heating systems unit, which supplies heat and industrial steam for Hill Air Force Base. During his nearly 40 years of federal service at Hill, Marion received many awards for his service, including letters of commendation and sustained superior performance awards. : Marion dedicated his life to the service of his family and ' supported them in all capacities. He was a great example of hardworking, determination, strong-willed, intellectual curiosity, integrity, dependability, and emotional and financial stability. He was an avid reader, woodworker and oil painter, and he had the extraordinary ability to turn any family occasion into a ‘grand event’ with his unforgettable BBQ and homemade ice cream, they were such a special treat! But first and foremost, Marion enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. we : | aoe He was a faithful member of his church and served faithfully anywhere he was needed. His primary area of service was the Layman Ministry. On October 30, 2009, he received recognition for his “outstanding and dedicated” service, as a Layman and Vice President, in the Intermountain General Baptist Convention and New Zion Baptist Church. As Presi- dent of the Wall Avenue Community Center in the 1940’s, Marion was instrumental in African-Americans being allowed to swim in the Lorin Farr Park swimming pool. He also served many years a member and Vice President of the NAACP. Marion will be deeply missed and we will suffer from the loss _ of this great hero, but he leaves a wonderful and lasting legacy, for not only his family, but forallwhoknewhim. _ Marion is survived by his three cherished daughters: Patri/ cia Ann (Chuck) Jones, Gloria Yvonne Tucker and Alexa Le Carter; dutiful nephew, Jerry Carter III: four precious | andar Vircent Edward Green, Trae Lee Tucker, Jinj Moniquie Bowden and Charles Jones III; five treasured gre: grandchildren: Brand’e Carter, Charles Jones IV, Miyah Sad Jones, Mekhi Charles Jones and Kamora Elizabeth Jones; an was exceedingly blessed with three great-great-grandson Jayden Carter, Jayshawn Carter and Sederian Carter; an nephew, Kary Carter; as well as, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. PEO ; He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Jerry Carter II, affectionately called “Sonny Boy;” older sister, Opal’ Bell; sisters-in-law, Mildred Carter and Johnny Carter; his niece, Sharon Carter; and nephews, Randy Scott and Christy Carter. te | : Heartfelt gratitude to Nathaniel Johnson, for all your visit and phone calls.
