Show Graduation Graduation For information pertaining to majors that do not require a minor see the dean of the school. Residence Requirement—A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree must have a minimum of 45 credits in residence at Weber State College and be registered at the College during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to his graduation. School or Department Requirements—Further information concerning specific courses will be provided under the discussion of school or department requirements and instructions. Candidates for graduation in the School of Education must meet the minimum requirements as outlined by the Utah State Board of Education for certification of elementary and secondary teachers. Specific Course Requirements—All candidates must include in the 183 credits required for graduation the following courses: Credits English 101, 102, 103 (Freshman Composition) 9 Health Education 100 2 Physical Education (Medical exemption approved by the college physician required to waive this requirement) 3 (For specified activities see Physical Education Department) The state requirement in American History, Government and Economics 3-5 The state requirement in American History, Government, and Economics may be satisfied by: 1. Completing one of the following courses: Economics 274 Economic History of the United States; Economics 430, Business and Government; History 170, American Civilization; History 120, United States History and History 121, United States History; History 420, Constitutional History of the United States; Political Science 110, American National Government; Philosophy 320, Philosophy of Democracy. (Economics 274, History 120, 121, and 170, Political Science 110, and Philosophy 320 may also be applied to general education requirements.) or 2. Presenting advanced placement credit in American History or suitable transfer courses from other institutions or 3. Passing a special examination administered before the end of the second week of each quarter under the direction of the Dean of the School of Arts, Letters and Science. If this option is completed, the Social Science requirement is reduced to 9 credit hours. BACHELOR OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS In addition to the foregoing requirements concerning total hours, upper division work, majors, minors, residency, and specific courses, a candidate for a Bachelor of Arts shall complete, as general education area requirements, at least 40 credit hours in the four areas of Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences. These hours shall be proportioned as follows: at least 15 credit hours in the Humanities with courses selected from at least four groups; at least 12 credit hours in the Social Sciences; at least 9 credit hours in the combined areas of the Life Sciences and the Physical Sciences, with at least one course in each area. A candidate for a Bachelor of Arts degree must complete 24 credits, or the equivalent, in one approved foreign language. A maximum of 15 college credits from high school may count toward filling the foreign language requirement, provided the student can pass an examination to demonstrate his knowledge of the subject. Transfer credit from another institution will be recognized without an examination. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE REQUIREMENTS In addition to the requirements concerning total hours, upper division work, majors, minors, residency, and specific courses, a candidate for a Bachelor of Science shall complete, as general education area requirements, at least 40 credit hours in the four areas of Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
