Show Education — Family Life Education — Family Life 440. The Family in Stress—The study of circumstances causing significant stress in family living. Ways families can cope with these and utilize available resources. S (3) 445. The Family in the Middle and Later Years—Family development and problems of grown children and their parents; parents on their own, understanding older family members. A (3) 499B. Seminar in Family Relations—Discussions and analysis of special topics in selected areas of Family Relations. S (Credit Arranged) Child Development Child Development Laboratory—A nursery school serves as a child development laboratory to give students practical experience. Students must apply to the Director of Nursery School two quarters prior to the teaching experience. Day Care Center—Day care facilities are available to children of faculty, staff and students on a half-day or full day program. 150. Child Development—Fundamentals of growth and development relating to effective human relationships within the family; a study of behavior and cultural influences from infancy through adolescence. Directed observations in the Child Development Laboratory. A W S (5) 251. Guidance of the Young Child—An approach to understanding and developing skill in guiding your child through increased understanding of one's self and experience observing and verbalizing with young children. Three lectures. Laboratory experience to be arranged. Prerequisite: Family Life 150. AWS (3) 252. Creative Learning Experience for Children—Planning of creative experience for young children to further growth. Experience in preparation of materials. Prerequisite: Family Life 150. AWS (3) 253. Preparation for Parenting I, II, III—The basic principles of child development, guidance and education relevant to the early childhood years. To be taken each quarter for two hours credit. Prerequisite: Enrollment of a child in the Family Life Children's School. I-A, II-W, III-S (2) 299A. Seminar in Child Development—Discussion and analysis of readings and selected topics in growth and development of the child. (Credit Arranged) 351. Student Teaching Seminar—Seminar to be taken concurrently with Family Life 352. A W S (3) 352. Student Teaching in the Nursery School—Experience in application of generalizations regarding growth, guidance, and development of children in the nursery school. For juniors and seniors. To be taken concurrently with Family Life 351. Prerequisites: Family Life 150, 251, and 252. A W S (6) 353. Parent Education—Prepares the student to function in the role of parent educator. It focuses on such topics as the nature of parent education, understanding why parents behave as they do, various methods of helping parents to grow in their parental roles, content of programs of parent education, how to motivate parents to participate and ways of reaching those parents who need help most. Student should register for two hours. One to two hours of lab is required and students should register concurrently for Family Life Practicum, 486. W (2) 355. Growth of the Infant—The physical, cognitive, emotional and social developmental characteristics during the first 18 months with implications for guidance and expanded knowledge of the importance of approriate experiences and behavior between parent and child. Prerequisite: Family Life 150. A S (3) 356. The Child from Six to Twelve—Growth and development of the normal child from six to twelve years. Guidance principles implicit in the normal behavior of children at these age levels. Guided observations. A W (3) 450. Child Development II—A comprehensive and indepth analysis of principles and theories of growth as applied to the physiological, intellectual, social, emotional development of the preschool and school age child. Recommended as a senior class for department majors or minors. Prerequisite: Family Life 150. S (3) 451. Organization and Planning for Preschool Programs— A review of the types of preschool programs in operation with concentration on the factors involved in the development of such preschool programs. Observation and evaluation of a variety of preschool programs will be included. Prerequisite: Family Life 351, 352. S (3) 288 289 |
