Automotive Brake System Services—Theory, operation, application and repair of automotive brake systems to include drum brake service, disc brake service, power brake units and parking brake systems. (30/10 wks.) PV055. Automotive Suspension System—Theory, operation, application, overhead and maintenance of automotive suspension systems with emphasis on front end alignment. (30/6 wks.) PV056. Automotive Air Conditioning—Theory, operation, trouble-shooting, repair and service of automotive air conditioning systems. (30/6 wks.) Pre-Apprentice Training and Other Skills Utah Skills Center North strives to fulfill needs for workers in industry and for prospective workers. The objective in this area is to fulfill a minimal requirement for a certain occupation, so that one can be placed in an on-the-job training position as an apprentice or helper. Presently, the training includes the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, floor covering, electronic assembly, upholstery, and automotive technology. Pre-Apprenticeship in Carpentry Occupational opportunities will be found with private and residential builders, general contractors, cabinet shops and many industries. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV060. Carpentry I—Introduction to the building industry. Information concerning hand tools, equipment, building materials and opportunities in the building industry is offered. Building codes are studied. Visual aids are used to correlate the theory and practical aspects of carpentry. (10 hrs/wk.) PV061. Carpentry II—Emphasis is placed on measuring, sawing, proper handling of portable power tools and skills that must be developed as they apply to jobs from a practical standpoint. Woodshop machines are studied from both the viewpoint of actual operation, safety usage and what one can expect from a performance standpoint. (15 hrs./wk.) PV062. Carpentry HI—Training in this course consists of actual methods of construction, such as framing entire walls. Theory of the steel square is given. Emphasis is placed upon application of roof framing and stair building. (15 hrs./wk.) PV063. Carpentry IV—This course is designed to acquaint the student with all types of roof construction. Each student will be required to cut and assemble all types of rafters as well as to prepare a roof for build-up construction. (15 hrs./wk.) PV064. Carpentry V—This course is intended to give the individual practical experience in framing doors and windows. An insight into other areas of construction is given, such as exterior woodwork and flooring. The student is also introduced to basic brickwork and electrical and plumbing installation in order to be given a comprehensive picture of the building industry. (15 hrs./wk.) Pre-Apprenticeship in Plumbing The curriculum is designed for students who want to be entry-level plumbing apprentices. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV071. Plumbing I—This course will initiate students with shop procedures and safety requirements. Emphasis is placed on the operation of a variety of thread cutting equipment, assembly of standard pipe measurement and offsets. (10 hrs./wk.) PV072. Plumbing II—Instruction includes pipe shop, pipe theory and oxyacetylene pipe welding. The student learns the use and construction of soil drainage pipe and fitting; and the assembling and installation of pipe offsets. (15 hrs./wk.) PV073. Plumbing III—Course includes layout and installation consisting of cutting and threading as well as using transit, hydraulics and pneumatics. (15 hrs./wk.) Pre-Apprenticeship in Masonry At the end of this training, the students are qualified to enter the bricklaying trade at the home-building level. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV074.
