Computer Applications for Accountants—Emphasis on practical computer applications as they relate to auditing and other accounting functions and uses. Prerequisites: Data Processing 101 and Accounting 313. S (4) 461. Advanced Managerial Accounting—A study of managerial accounting techniques in business and governmental organizations. The position of the controller and the techniques available to him are reviewed with applications through case studies. This course is intended to assist students in preparing for the Certificate in Managerial Accounting. Prerequisites: Accounting 310 and Finance 320. W (4) 480. Independent Study—Individual work or work in small groups by arrangement, in special topics not included in the announced course offerings. Prerequisite: Approval of instructor. AWS (1-5) 489. Senior Internship—Practical on-the-job experience and training with private business, governmental agencies and public accounting firms. Prerequisites: Accounting 313 and permission of instructor. AW S (1-4) DATA PROCESSING The Data Processing Program at Weber State College is designed to prepare men and women to effectively employ the computer in a wide variety of disciplines. An understanding of data processing and computer capabilities is extremely valuable to all students because of the ever- expanding role of the computer in modern day society. Besides supporting the other academic disciplines in the College, the Data Processing curriculum emphasizes computer programming, system programming, and system analyst skills. Data Processing offers a two year Certificate of Completion, a two year Associate of Science or Arts degree, and a four year Bachelor of Science or Arts degree. Certificate of Completion—A minimum of 93 credit hours including Data Processing 101, 120, 160, 190, 140 or 250 or 260, 201, 210, 280, and 305. The following courses are also required: English 101, 102, 103; Health 100; General Education electives including Math 105 for a minimum of 2.0 credit hours; Physical Education, 3 credit hours; Accounting 102, 202, 310; Office Administration 325. Associate Degree—A minimum of 93 credit hours including the general education college requirements for the associate degree. The following courses are also required: Data Processing 101, 120, 160, 190, 140 or 250 or 260, 201, 210, 280, and 305; Accounting 102, 202, 310; Office Administration 325; Math 105. Data Processing Major—Business Option—In addition to the general education requirements and the core requirements for all students in the School of Business and Economics, requirements for a major in Data Processing include Data Processing 160, 190, 120 or 140 or 250 or 260, 201, 210, 280, 305, 370, 380, and at least 13 additional credit hours of approved Data Processing courses numbered above 305. The following courses are also required: Math 107; Economics 350. Data Processing 430, Advanced Fortran cannot be used as hours toward the 13 hour additional upper division requirement. Data Processing Major—Math-Science Option—In addition to the general education requirements, this option requires a student to complete Accounting 102, 202, and 310; Communications 326; Mathematics 211, 212, 213, and 320; Data Processing 101, 160, 190, 201, 210, 260, 280, 305, 370, 380, and at least 13 additional credit hours of approved Data Processing courses numbered above 305. With the aid of his Data Processing advisor, the student will select an upper division statistics course and sixteen hours of advisor approved credit hours in science or mathematics beyond the general education requirements. Data Processing 430, Advanced Fortran, is highly recommended for this option. There will be no minor required in this option. Data Processing Minor—Students planning to obtain a minor in Data Processing are required to have at least 21 hours of satisfactory work in Data Processing; including Data Processing 101, 160, 120 or 140 or 250 or 260, and 305. The remaining courses must be upper division Data Processing courses numbered above 305 excluding 480. Continuation of a programming language is strongly recommended. Grade requirements—A student who received a grade below "C" in a prerequisite Data Processing course will be required to repeat that course before he is eligible to register for the next course. No course in which a grade lower than "C" was received will be accepted in the completion of major or minor requirements. 236 237 |
