Show General Information General Information We, the Associated Students of Weber State College, in keeping with the rules and regulations of the Administration and Board of Trustees of Weber State College, in order to insure effective self-government, to promote harmony and cooperation between students and faculty, to provide facilities and programs capable of fulfilling the needs and interests of the students, to create an atmosphere conducive to scholastic achievement, and to promote academic and social activities, do establish this Constitution. The ASWSC represents students in academic and social affairs. It formulates measures necessary to implement the provisions of the constitution, such as management of the student activity budget, the appointment of students to committees, and the initiation of out-of-class programs and activities. The Weber State College Union Policy Board consists of members of the College administration, student government, and alumni. This board establishes policies for the use of the College Union. The Union Director and his staff are responsible for the administration of the Union. An important policy statement, "Students Rights and Responsibilities," was approved by the Student Senate, the Faculty Academic Council, and the Institutional Council of Weber State College. All students are urged to become acquainted with this important statement of principles and practices. Inter-Fraternal Council — The Inter-Fraternal Council, which is a governing board, includes executive officers and all fraternity presidents who serve to supervise and make policies for fraternal activities. Fraternities presently affiliated with this council are chapters of national fraternal organizations. Panhellenic Council — The Panhellenic Council, which is a governing board, includes executive officers and all sorority presidents who serve to supervise and make policies for all sorority activities. Sororities affiliated with this council are presently a composite of local and national chapters. Executive officers of Inter-Fraternal Council and Panhellenic Council meet together on a regular basis for a close coordination of joint activities and cooperation in common concerns. The Weber State College Development Fund Board promotes financial support to the College from private sources. Representatives from the College Institutional Council, the As sociated Alumni of Weber State College, the Administration, the Faculty, Staff and the Community directs the activities of the fund. An Executive Director is appointed by the Development Fund Board to administer the policies of the board. The Weber State College Alumni Association functions through a Board of Directors both elected and appointed by the members of the Alumni Association. The President of the Association serves as an ex-officio member of the Institutional Council of the College. Advisory committees from the professions, businesses, trades, and industries assist the college in matters pertaining to courses and curricula to meet the needs of businesses, professions, trades, and industries. Each committee is an integral part of the organization of an occupational course or curriculum. OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLEGE Weber State College operates within the framework of the Utah System of Higher Education and has received its role assignment from the Utah legislature and from the State Board of Regents. As provided by state law— "The object of the College shall be to teach branches of learning in the fields of the sciences and arts as may promote the liberal and practical education of students attending. The course of study therein shall be the first two years of college work. In addition, thereto, said College is hereby authorized and directed to offer four years of college work in vocational and technical training and industrial technology and is further authorized to provide four years of college work in the fields of arts and sciences, business, and education; to confer bachelor degrees in all of these fields; and to offer all necessary courses of study upon which such degrees are based. The first year of such upper division work is authorized for the school year 1962- 63 and the second year of such upper division work is authorized for the school year 1963-64. Said school shall be maintained by the state." From the basis of this legislative mandate and from the role assignment by the State Board of Regents the faculty and administration have projected given specific goals which are being accomplished through instruction, research and developmental activities, community and extension services. 458 459 |
