Roberts. The Office Administration curriculum is organized to train students as prospective administrative assistants, office managers, secretaries or clerks. The four-year bachelor of science program trains as executive secretaries, administrative assistants or office managers. It also prepares them to become Certified Professional Secretaries. For students not interested in obtaining a bachelor of science degree but desiring specific training, there are available the following programs: two-year associate of science, or certificate of completion, and the one- to six-quarter specialized program emphasizing any specific areas of business. The Business Education curriculum is organized for the training of teachers in the general field of business with a specialization in secretarial training, accounting, or basic business. Departmental Major in Office Administration—In addition to the general education requirements of the College and the core requirements of the School of Business and Economics, the student must complete Office Administration 103, 123, 150, 301, 341, 351, 352, 355 and 499. Majors are exempt from Economics 251 in the core requirements and may substitute Mathematics 102 for Mathematics 105, Management 301 for Management 364 and Finance 101 for Economics 250. Departmental Minor in Office Administration—A baccalaureate degree candidate from another school may satisify this minor by completing Office Administration 103, 123, 301, and 351, plus 8 additional hours selected from the following: Office Administration 150, 341, 325; Accounting 102 and 202; Economics 101. Students majoring in any area of the School of Business and Economics are not required a minor field. If, however, they do desire a minor, it will be added to their record if they com plete a minimum of 15 credits chosen from Office Administration 301, 341, 342, 351, 352, and 355. Certificate of Proficiency in Secretarial Science—The student must type a minimum of 60 words per minute with a maximum of 1 error per minute on a 5-minute timing and write shorthand at 100 words per minute with 97% accuracy on a 3- minute take. The student must complete a total of 45 credit hours including Accounting 102, and Office Administration 103, 123, 150, 301, 341, 351, and 352. Associate of Science in Secretarial Science—The student must complete a minimum of 93 credit hours including the 50 hour general education college requirement for the Associate of Science degree, Office Administration 103, 351, and 20 credit hours from the following: Office Administration 123, 150, 301, 325, 341, 352, and 355; Accounting 102 and 202; Data Processing 101; Finance 101; Economics 101 and 102; Business Administration 101 and 320. Certificate of Completion in Secretarial Science—The student must complete a minimum of 93 credit hours including the 37 hour general education college requirement for the Certificate of Completion, Office Administration 103, 351, and 30 credit hours from the following: Office Administration 123, 150, 301, 325, 341, 352, and 355; Accounting 102 and 202; Data Processing 101; Finance 101; Economics 101 and 102; Business Administration 101 and 320. Composite Major in Business Education—This teaching major is recommended for prospective secondary school and junior college business educators and consists of a minimum of 82 quarter hours in the areas listed below. The area of major emphasis may be accounting, secretarial, or basic business. A 2.25 GPA is required. In addition to the general education requirements of the College and the core requirements of the School of Business and Economics, the student must complete Management 301, 33 hours of education courses including the two WILKITS on teaching basic business (one while taking Education 355 and one while taking Education 499) and one of the following options: A. Office Administration emphasis: 103, 123, 150, 301, 341, 351, 352, 355, 360, 361, 362, and 499. Those emphasizing accounting should substitute Accounting 311, 312, and 313 for Office Administration 123 and 341. 254 255 |
