Show Technology — Utah Skills Center North Technology — Utah Skills Center North elude drum brake service, disc brake service, power brake units and parking brake systems. (30/10 wks.) PV027. Automotive Suspension System—Theory, operation, application, overhead and maintenance of automotive suspension systems with emphasis on front end alignment. (30/6 wks.) PV029. Automotive Air Conditioning—Theory, operation, trouble-shooting, repair and service and automotive air conditioning systems. (30/6 wks.) BUILDING TRADES These courses are designed to give the student a general introduction to the building trades. The student will become familiar with the tools of the trade with emphasis upon practical construction experience. These courses will prepare the student to either enter an apprenticeship or to enter into entry level employment. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV031. Carpentry—Introduction to the building industry. Information concerning use of hand tools, power equipment, building materials, and opportunities in the building industry is offered. Building codes are studied and practical applications are developed relative to current construction projects. (30 hrs./wk.) PV033. Plumbing—This course will initiate students to shop procedures and safety requirements. Emphasis is placed on the operation of a variety of thread cutting equipment, assembly of standard pipe measurement and offsets. In order for a student to seek permanent employment, he must apprentice in the trade. (30 hrs./wk.) PV035. Electrical—This course will introduce the student to electrical theory, the building codes. The application will be developed in mock-ups and actual work projects. Emphasis will be on residential wiring. (30 hrs./wk.) PV037. Floor Covering—This course will include lay-out and measurement of tile, linoleum, and carpet. It will also offer experience in installation. (30 hrs./wk.) PV038. Roofing—This course will cover various roofing materials, layout and installation. (30 hrs./wk.) PV039. Painting—This course will cover paints, stains and various sealers and their application. Emphasis will be on a practical experience. (30 hrs./wk.) DRAFTING OCCUPATIONS The Drafting Occupations program is geared to train students for entry level jobs on a junior draftsman level. The courses are broken down into three (3) phases of training designed to meet the goals of the student in this field of study. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV041. Exploratory Drafting—This class will determine the interest and ability of the individual by exploring the field of drafting. An exposure to the occupations in drafting will be included. Basic operations will be performed. PV043. Basic Drafting Techniques—A course in the fundamentals of drafting which will include basic techniques in lettering and construction of drawings. Orientation and use of drafting equipment will be covered. PV045. Drafting Technology—A more advanced curriculum in the drafting study will be provided. Advanced training options include mechanical drafting, civil drafting and electronic drafting. MACHINE TOOL PROGRAM The pre-vocational program is designed to give students the opportunity to acquire skills and related information to build a profitable career in the machine tool area. This training will qualify a student to be a machinist's helper, tool room attendant, or machine tool inspector. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV051. Machine Tool Occupation—This course introduces all aspects of machine tools for students in the area of machine shop, mechanical technology and welding. Topics covered include safety, field trips, new process and products, as well as orientation of students in employment possibilities. (5 hrs./wk.) PV053. Theory of Machine Shop—Emphasis is placed on theory of operation of bench tools, measuring tools, lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, and general machining principles. Also discussed are problems dealing with care and safety of a machine shop. This course used individualized instruction and should be taken concurrently with PV055, Practice of Machine Shop.
