The requirements for a 20-hour concentration are Music Theory: Music 169; Music History and Literature: Music 301; Music Education: Music 216, 320, 321; Applied Music: Major Ensemble (4 hours) and Private Study in piano (3 hours) or Music 213, 214, 215. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION HU101. Introduction to Music—Designed for general college and formal appreciation-course students, lay listeners, record collectors, music novices, concert patrons, and discophiles. AWS (3) 110. Music Theory I—The analysis and writing of diatonic harmony in the style of the Bach 4-part chorale. Elementary harmony including ear training, dictation, and keyboard harmony. Symphonic instrumentation with participation in concerts, oratorio, and opera. AWS(l) 169. Music Essentials—For prospective elementary school teachers . Rudiments of music, sight-singing, notation, ear training, dictation, and keyboard harmony. AWS (3) 205. Double Reed Making—Teaching students how to make and adjust oboe, English horn and bassoon reeds. (Offered alternate years.) W (1) 210.
