Show AREA OCCUPATIONAL CAREER CENTER Paul G. Butterfield, Director Howard M. Johnson, Coordinator Weber State College is designated as the Area Vocational school. This designates responsibility for post-high school vocational, occupational and career training programs development and operation. The Occupational Career Center focuses on identification of new programs and the needs of employers and trainers as well as institutional preparation to meet ongoing training program needs. There are many occupational needs beyond the traditional vocational areas. In order to satisfy these needs, an Area Occupational Career Center has been established which identifies the occupational program needs of the community, develops the programs in viable, relevant entities and serves as an operational unit for short term programs. Those programs which show long range application are then transferred to one of the Schools of the College. The Center serves as a focal point for new programs and established programs which have no developed regular college counter part. It also serves as a center for occupational counseling for all students. The Center is dedicated to prepare persons for available occupations while also preparing them to grow into long term careers which provide satisfaction as well as income. The programs have open entry and are developed to promote exit directly into occupations or into post- high school educational programs. To facilitate the upward mobility of students, the Center provides counseling and job placement assistance. A. Objectives: 1. Initiate innovative and relevant vocational programs. 2.
