Show Sylvester Daniels Sr. Sylvester Daniels Sr. of Layton passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at age 85. He resided in Layton, Utah most of his life until his passing from natural causes. Sylvester, affectionately called Mr. Syl, was born to James Daniels Sr. and Annie Felton, in Hartford, Alabama on March 25, 1928 along with his twin sister, Queen Ester Daniel. His other siblings, James Daniels, Willie B. Daniels, Howard Daniels, Esau Daniels, David Daniels, Walter Daniels, Clyde Daniels, Maggie Daniels, Lois Daniels and Byrd Daniels all preceded him in death. As a child, Sylvester Daniels learned valuable work ethic while working in the cotton fields and picking peanuts. He later moved to Ogden, Utah to work on the Union Pacific Railroad until retirement. He married Ruby Lee Dix in the fall of 1949. They were married for twenty years and their union brought forth 9 children. He later remarried Irene Daniels, better known as “Reenie Beenie,” on January 18, 1975; she preceded him in death on November 18, 2007. Sylvester Daniels was truly a self-made man, diversifying his portfolio mostly in real estate investments. Sylvester thoroughly enjoyed his time on the railroad and on occasion would return home from work showering his children with the coins he had received as tips. He loved to hunt, fish and garden. Sylvester Daniels was baptized in Alabama and was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. Sylvester Daniels was preceded in death by his two children, Cynthia Delores Daniels and Roderick (Recus) Daniels and survived by his children: Vivian Williams (Wendell) of CA, Sylvester Daniels Jr. (Penny) of Layton, Alfreda Daniels of CA, Michael Daniels of Clearfield, Regina Daniels of CA, Brian Daniels Sr. of Salt Lake, Kimberly Waetly of Salt Lake and Kayla Adams of Salt Lake. He also leaves as his legacy; grandchildren listed as follows, W. Brian Williams, Brent A. Williams (Robin), Nathan D. Williams (Deia), Monique Daniels, Sylvester Daniels III, Azure D. Vine (William), Derrick C. Hill (Nicole), DuPriest O. Hill (LaQueitta), Jasmine Akalaonu (Okechukwu), Jerice Daniels (deceased), Michael Smaulden-Daniels, Matthew Daniels, Michelle Daniels, Iris Harris, Sylvia Jackson, Brian Daniels Jr., Brianna Daniels, Christopher K. Sulton and a host of great-grandchildren whom he affectionately called “Baby”, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014 at New Zion Baptist Church, 2935 Lincoln Ave. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 20" from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
