Show Technology — Welding Technology — Welding 044. Aircraft Sheet Metal Processes—This course applies the skills learned to do actual construction, such as assembly and repair of typical aircraft structures. (15 hrs./wk.) WELDING The Welding curriculum is designed for the student who wishes to major in welding. The various aspects of electric, oxyacetylene and inert processes are included. General service courses are offered for those in related areas who wish to become familiar with the principles of welding as applied to their respective fields: NOTE: Sophomore year will not be offered 1974-75. Certificates of proficiency will be issued on attainment of previously agreed upon skill levels. A pre-vocational curriculum in this area consisting of courses 030, 031, 032, and 033, is designed to train students for entry-level skills in welding and fabrication. Special emphasis is placed on certification in vertical-up and over-head arc welding. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION 030. Oxyacetylene Processes—Beginning course for welding students. The use of oxyacetylene equipment to perform welds, cutting hardfacing, surface-bonding testing and inspection of sheet and plate steel welding with respect to the American Welding Standards. (10 hrs./wk.) 031. Principles of Gas Welding—Principles of oxyacetylene processes including fusion of mild steels, cutting techniques, and surface bonding of non-ferrous alloys. Emphasis on safety factors of gas welding. This course should be taken concurrently with 030, Oxyacetylene Processes. (10 hrs./wk.) 032. Electric Welding Processes—This course includes safety, and electrode selection; inspection of arc welding and hard surfacing; structural joint designs such as butt, lap, and fillet welds on mild steel plate; and cast iron welding. (15 hrs./wk.) 033. Principles of Arc Welding—Fundamentals of electrode design ; fusion of steels ; hard-facing of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys; and an emphasis on safety. This course should be taken concurrently with 032, Electric Welding Process. (10 hrs./wk.) 101. Oxyacetylene Processes—Skill in welding, cutting, hard-facing, surface-bonding, testing, and inspection of sheet and plate steel welding as applied to the American welding standards. Five 3-hour laboratories a week. A (5) 102. Principles of Arc Welding—Electric arc welding processes; fusion of steels, hard-facing of ferrous and non- ferrous alloys, fundamentals of electrode design, and safety factors involved in the arc welding process. Five lectures. W (5) 105. Inert Welding Processes—Inert gas welding of non- ferrous metals such as stainless steel and aluminum alloys emphasizing testing and inspection requirements of the American Welding Standards. Five 3-hour laboratories a week. S (5) 106. Principles of Inert Welding—Non-ferrous alloys and their weldability; construction and maintenance of the inert welding machine. Five lectures. S (5) 115. Welding Blueprint Reading—Interpretation and application of blueprint reading; estimation and cost of materials and structural design as it applied to welding in industry. For majors. One lecture and one 3-hour laboratory a week. S (2) 165. Welding Processes—Principles and practices in the fundamentals of arc and acetylene welding for those students in related fields ; fusion welding of sheet and plate ferrous metals. Two 3-hour laboratories a week. A W S (2) 171, 172, 173, 174, 175, 176. Welding (Electric Arc)—For students with little or no training in arc welding as well as those who wish to upgrade themselves in their trades. Welding beads, butt joints, lap joints, fillet weld, pipe welding; overhead, vertical, and flat position welding; preparing and welding of repair jobs; cast aluminum welding; classroom instruction. One lecture, two 3-hour laboratories a week. (3-3-3-3-3-3) Evening 181, 182, 183, 184, 185, 186. Welding (Acetylene)—For students with little or no training in acetylene welding as well as those who wish to upgrade themselves in the trades.
