Show Technology — Utah Skills Center North Technology — Utah Skills Center North machines, grinding machines, and general machining principles are provided. Emphasis is placed on purpose, use, care, safety problems. Practice is obtained in the use of attachments and accessories of various machine tools. Work pieces will be made to proper dimensions and tolerances from drawing. (15 hrs./ wk). SHEETMETAL WORKER This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of commercial sheetmetal. It will cover design, lay-out and estimation of material. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV061. Blueprint Reading—This course will teach general blueprint reading as well as detail schematics as it pertains to sheetmetal. PV063. Sheetmetal Theory—This course is concerned with nomenclature of components, and familiarization and care of tools. PV065. Sheetmetal Lab—This course will emphasize the practical application of sheetmetal principles. This course will support the work projects in progress. WELDING The Welding curriculum is designed for the student who wishes to specialize in welding. The various aspects of electric, oxyacetylene and inert processes are included. A pre-vocational curriculum in this area consisting of courses is designed to train students for entry-level skills in welding and fabrication. Special emphasis is placed on certification in vertical-up, over-head arc welding, and C02 welding. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV071. Oxyacetylene Processes—Beginning course for welding students. The use of oxyacetylene equipment to perform welds, cutting hardfacing, surface-bonding, testing and inspection of sheet and plate steel welding with respect to the American Welding Standards. (10 hrs./wk.) PV073. Principles of Gas Welding—Principles of oxyacetylene processes including fusion of mild steels, cutting techniques, and surface bonding of non-ferrous alloys. Emphasis on safety factors of gas welding. This course should be taken concurrently with PV071, Oxyacetylene Processes. (10 hrs./wk.) PV075. Electric Welding Processes—This course includes safety, and electrode selection; inspection of arc welding and hard surfacing; structural joint designs such as butt, lap, and fillet welds on mild steel plate; and cast iron welding. (15 hrs./wk.) PV077. Principles of Arc Welding—Fundamentals of electrode design; fusion of steels; hard-facing of ferrous and non- ferrous alloys; and an emphasis on safety. This course should be taken concurrently with PV075. (10 hrs./wk.) ELECTRONICS ASSEMBLY This course is designed to provide skill and technical training for individuals entering the occupations involved with assembly and repair of electronic goods. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION PV081. Electronics Assembly—This course presents basic concepts and techniques of electronics assembly line production. The skills and knowledge acquired here are for assembly of electronic equipment, such as computers, movie and T.V. cameras and T.V. sets. Training includes wire preparation, soldering components, symbol identification, color code reading, harness tying, cleaning and repairing circuit boards, schematic reading, safety procedures and use of tools.
