Show Continuing Education Continuing Education RETIRED SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP) The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) offers older adults a recognized role in the community and a meaningful life in retirement through volunteer service. RSVP is funded through ACTION, a government agency which unites all federal volunteer agencies into one single effort to help people help themselves. Senior Volunteers serve in a variety of ways: to agencies, institutions, and community-service outlets known as Volunteer Stations. RSVP staff will arrange for suitable Volunteer stations including those that serve people of all ages, and then assign Senior Volunteers according to their needs and preferences. The Weber County program is directed toward the needs of the total community. Senior Volunteers must be retired and age 60 or over. They are individuals willing to share the benefits of a lifetime of living, their accumulation of experience, knowledge, interests, skills, understanding, maturity and dependability. RSVP provides opportunity to the retired members of the community to be useful, needed, appreciated, and to serve on a regular and organized basis. Senior Volunteers serve without any compensation, as in any traditional volunteer program. However, volunteers are reimbursed for actual daily expenses such as transportation and a meal. TRAVEL STUDY PROGRAM Travel Study Programs may be offered anytime throughout the year. Programs may be arranged for college or community groups who wish to develop educationally while traveling within the state, the United States or in other countries. The purpose of the Travel Studies Program is to upgrade, encourage, and facilitate educational travel. The Travel Studies Program will coordinate with other departments on campus and welcome suggestions and requests from any individual or group interested in programs of a travel study nature. Persons participating must enroll on a credit or audit basis in the class or classes required in each program. HIGHER EDUCATION SERVICES—WEBER CENTER The Higher Education Services Program is designed to coordinate the development of course offerings being presented in the Ogden/Weber metropolitan area by all institutions of higher learning, as well as provide the opportunity for the dissemination of information as to any courses or special programs brought into the area. ACADEMIC STANDARDS In all cases where degree credit is granted, academic standards of the academic departments are followed. COUNSELING Counseling in the area of vocational choice, educational planning, or any personal concerns is available by appointment. Appointments may be made through the main office of the Counseling Center, Weber State College. FACULTY All members of the instructional staff are selected for their outstanding recent experience in education, business or industry. They are college faculty or persons employed during the day in responsible positions in their fields of specialization, and bring to their classes the benefit of current knowledge and practical experience.
