Show The city was required to update the Moderate Income Housing Plan. Mr. Morris briefly discussed the 2013 updated report with the council. The motion to approve the 2013 updated report passed unanimously at the November 15, 2012, City Council Meeting. Gardens, Parks, and Our World Cleaning Up Staff burned storm drains as part of spring cleaning efforts. Two new culverts were installed on 2200 West, between Pioneer Road and Slaterville Park. The wet cement was damaged (see story under "Crime," page 17. Waste Management advised that garbage collection will not be made on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4*1, Labor Day or Christmas when the holiday falls on a Monday. On those days, collection will be made on the following day, Tuesday. Spring Clean-up was held on April 21-22, 2012, and Fall Clean-up on October 12-14, 2012. The City and Waste Management helped with their complimentary dumpsters at both the Marriott and Slaterville Parks. We were reminded that all garbage must be inside the dumpster, not on the ground, and everyone needs to be considerate of others using this service. Waste Management requested that no tires or hazardous material be dumped. We were encouraged to trim and remove weeds in our neighborhood, especially around fire hydrants, as they create a fire hazard. Many invasive weeds such as poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, ragweed, "puncture" weed, Scottish thistle, Bind Weed (morning glory), Dyer's Woad, phragmites, and similar noxious vegetation should be eradicated if possible. At the meeting on June 32, 3023, Councilman Delbert Hodson reported that a problem with thistle exists on IRS property. Volunteers are wanted! Residents were asked to contact Sandra Saunders, our community gardener, if available to help in maintaining the city garden. Volunteers were needed to clean-up, trim perennials, and prepare the gardens. At a gardening day in March, along with other volunteers, the local Methodist Church members helped weed the municipal gardens and did a great job. Other Community Gardening Days were held on April 25, 2012, beginning at 6:00 p.m.. and on Saturday, May 19, 2012, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the community gardens behind the city office. Mulch was spread by volunteers in May. No gardening day was scheduled in July, but help was encouraged. Mrs. Saunders advised that flyers were available at the city on vegetable gardens, shrubs, turf grass, watering, and other information. A free pruning class was held at the Ogden Botanical Gardens on Saturday, March 31, from 9:00-12:00. During the past winter a severe wind storm toppled many trees, and some fell and clogged Mill Creek. Ogden City residents dumped their debris from the wind storms into the creek, but Ogden City refused to take responsibility. Water for the North Slaterville Irrigation Company comes from Pine View Reservoir, through Mill Creek. This resulted in water problems for our subdivisions, farmers, and others, including the Slaterville Park. Water for the park was not available until the end of May and the park severely dried. The city appreciated the work of the North Slaterville Irrigation Company in working with Pine View and other water users and companies to repair Mill Creek, between Ogden Canyon and the Ogden Nature Center. Managing water is not easy; it takes a lot of work to bring water to our valley. 10 |
