Show The Pioneer Post Volume XTV Issue 1 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter January 2012 State cf the City by Keith H. Butler, Mayor As we start 2012 our City is working hard to make life better in our community. The flooding last spring took a tremendous amount of effort and resources. Our community united together with neighbors helping neighbors. I love our volunteer spirit in our City. We have great community activities and participation. A fun Easter Egg Hunt led to a wonderful Fourth of July. The Trunk-or- Treat had an incredible turnout and the Breakfast with Santa delighted children from all over the City. Making life better involves keeping our infrastructure and parks in good shape. After much work, the 400 North Reconstruction Project has finally been completed. This was a difficult and complex project, but now we can enjoy this new and improved road. 1200 West from 12th Street to 17th Street and Pioneer Road to 2800 West was also overlaid. We also had some park improvements at Marriott Park and Mill Creek entryway. Also, we worked to get a moss filter system functional in the Spencer Farms secondary water system to help residents on that system. This coming year I look forward to dedicating two new river trail bridges and connecting another mile of trail to the trail system along the river. Also, this coming year I look forward to new businesses opening in the community on 2000 West and on 12th Street. Each year a few residents pass away and we dearly miss them. A number of residents have expressed interest in having a cemetery in our community. In 2012 residents may have an opportunity to vote on the issue of whether or not to create a cemetery district. I encourage you to attend the Public Hearing at the City Building on January 19th at 6:30 PM to give comment to the City Council on this topic. I am pleased to say our City is well, supportive, and that our finances are good. May you all enjoy a happy and prosperous new year. West Davis Corridor The UDOT project team has been meeting and will continue to meet with residents, farmers, city councils, resource agencies and other stakeholders as they begin preparing the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The information and feedback that is gathered during the upcoming months will continue to help improve the alternatives. Through spring 2012, the team will continue to perform a thoroughly detailed analysis on the alternatives. The results of this analysis will be reflected in the DEIS, which will be made available for public comment and presented at public hearings in summer 2012. After the formal comment period next summer, any resulting changes will be included in a Final EIS which will be made available to the public in spring 2013. A final preferred alternative is not expected until 2013. As always, UDOT encourages you to share your thoughts and ask questions.
