Show Marriott-Slaterville History December 2012 A Christmas party for volunteers was held at the Senior Center on December 20, 2012, following the City Council Meeting. Bella's catered the dinner, which was commended by those in attendance. Thanks especially to Becky Burt for all her work. The Senior Health Connection Newsletter for December 2012, dealt with depression. For most, holidays are a special time, but some, especially older adults, may feel sadness as they miss someone no longer with them, and loneliness. If the "blueness" lasts a long time, it could be a serious case of depression. Treatments today are highly effective for depression, though medication may take 4-12 weeks to produce results. Personal physicians should be consulted in cases of serious depression. Bits and Pieces Veterinarian Katherine Borrett, Millcreek Animal Hospital, one of our residents, was featured in a story in the Standard Examiner on December 31, 2012. On December 19 she successfully removed a pellet from the nasal cavity of Tennessee, a female black minx cat. Tennessee started coughing, sneezing and scratching at her face several weeks ago; her owner Larry Hyatt took her to their veterinarian. An X-ray showed a pellet near the cat's eye and inside her sinus cavity, and she advised them the necessary surgery was beyond her skill level. After a front-page story in the Standard Examiner about Tennessee's plight, Dr. Borrett learned about it, and later performed the successful surgery. 155 |
