Show Marriott-Slaterville History August 2012 common forms of contamination result from oil and fuel spills, vehicle fluid spills, construction debris, landscape debris, chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides and paint products. Our water is used for irrigation and recreation and these things don't belong there. Some suggestions to help keep our water clean are: Never use the gutter or storm drain to dispose of hazardous waste of any kind. Store toxic products indoors, in a secure shed, or in a storage cabinet. Dispose of household or hazardous material for free at the Weber County Solid Waste Facility, Call 801 - 399-880 for more information. Do not wash tools and equipment in the street. Wash on grass or areas where the wash water cannot reach the storm drain. Maintain vehicles so that they do not leak fluids. Clean up spills using kitty litter or absorbent material without washing into any drain. Recycle oils at an approved facility. The Weber County Animal Shelter will host a rabies clinic on September 15, 2012, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Shots cost $14.00. Dog licenses will also be available. Bits and Pieces An article in the Standard-Examiner on August 11, 2012, told a resident's experience of innocent encounters with armed police officials. On Thursday, August 9, 2012, Jim Skaggs' doorbell rang at 8:30 p.m. When he opened the door there were "eight guys, fully-armed, looking like the SWAT team, with semiautomatic weapons." Two more officers were behind his home. The reason was the same as on four previous occasions since he bought his home in April 2008. They were looking for Weston R. Oram, 32, who was released from the Utah State Prison on May 15, and placed on parole. The Adult Probation and Parole issued a warrant and asked the U.S. Marshals Service to find Oram, whose last known address was the home now owned by Mr, Skaggs. He has always told them that "this guy is not here," and that he is not a relation. His concern is that no one has removed the address from Mr. Oram's file. As of the next day, AP&P said the address was removed, but it might be on other agencies' records. Mr. Skaggs vented his frustrations in a letter to the Editor of the Standard-Examiner on August 15. On August 16, a subsequent article said the fugitive Weston Oram had turned himself in to the sheriff's office on Monday, August 13, 2012, and was arrested for violation of parole. This will hopefully bring a close to Mr. Skaggs' problem. Marjorie Slater Parkinson, age 90, passed away on August 19, 2012. Alex David Harvey, son of Jeremy and Janell Harvey, was born on August 20, 2012. Max Chet Marriott was born on August 29, 2012. He is the son of Matt and Amy Marriott. 145 |
