The motion to approve the 2013 updated report passed unanimously. The upcoming Christmas party was discussed. It will follow the 6:30 p.m. council meeting on December 20, 2012, with dinner at 7:00 p.m. Community awards will be presented at the council meeting. Trunk-or-treat was a success, but different options for the next year will be reviewed. The council meeting was closed and a closed executive session to discuss the acquisition of real property was held, and adjourned at 8:25 p.m. The Presidential Section was held at the city office on November 6, 2012. Early voting was held for the last three weeks in October. The polls were consistently busy as voters cast ballots. Other federal, state and local offices were also on the ballot. Our city office location was one of a few where ballots could be cast by anyone living within Weber County. A Trail Grand Opening was held on November 13, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at the new trail bridge by 1-15 on the Weber River, 1723 West 1350 South, with a ribbon cutting. This is a section of the Centennial Trail along the Weber River. The 27-mile Centennial Trail follows the Ogden and Weber Rivers and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, connecting Ogden and Weber canyons. Ogden resident Eddie Harbertson, who donated some of the property needed to complete the one-mile stretch of the trail, preformed the ribbon cutting. West Haven Mayor Brian Melaney and Marriott-Slaterville Mayor Keith Butler spoke, as did representatives of Weber Pathways and RAMP. Refreshments were available at Marriott-Slaterville City office building. About 35 people were present for the event. The opening of this trail segment in Marriott-Slaterville was featured in an article in the Standard Examiner. The city has received a strong positive public response to this trail project. The Senior Health Connection Newsletter for November 2012 concerned COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, a serious lung disease. It includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Pulmonary rehab can help improve the quality of life. Bits and Pieces Bernice Stettier Kidman Lowe, age 91, passed away on November 15, 2012. The United Methodist Church held a Craft Bazaar on Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Holiday items were among items for sale, and a silent auction was held. Santa paid a visit with the opportunity for pictures. John Amos, 83, of Sandy faces a negligent homicide charge after the car he was driving allegedly hit Thayne Hansen, 52, of our city, who was found inside the drain at the Draper Spectrum shopping center, with his face submerged. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. Brandon Sloper, 25, of Marriott-Slaterville, was sentenced to serve 1 to 15 years in the Utah State Prison, for aggravated assault against Ashlee Bambrough. 153 |
