Show April 18, 2012 Clifford J. Oram MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE - After a long and happy life of 91 years, our beloved father peacefully passed away at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home on April 18, 2012, and joined his beloved sweetheart lla, who he has longed for since her death. Clifford was born on February 28, 1921, in Ogden, Utah, to Joseph Hyrum and Myrtle May Hepworth Oram. Clifford was raised with his brother Ferrion, stepbrother Gloyd, and two stepsisters, Erma and Arpha. He graduated from Ogden High School and soon afterwards got a job delivering milk. This is when Cliff met his true sweetheart lla Lois Christensen and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 29, 1941. Cliff worked as an electrician for the Bamberger Railroad; moved up to Bamberger Railroad Engineer traveling between Ogden and Salt Lake. He then worked at Hill Air Force Base as an Aircraft Electrician. He and lla moved to Logan where he attended and graduated from the Utah State Agricultural College as an electrician. He was drafted into the Army in 1943 where he served in the 560th Heavy Ordinance Division as a sharpshooter and electrician during World War II. He participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He served until 1945 with an honorably discharged. Cliff was active in sports during his life, playing on many teams throughout his life, was a referee for several events, and passed that desire on to some of his family. Cliffs first job after the service was at the Ogden Iron Works and then he and his brother-in-law Delroy Saunders opened the Washington Terrace Community Bakery. Due to the war, the bakery was closed for lack of metal that was needed to modernize the ovens. Cliff went to work at the Southern Pacific Railroad as a Diesel Electrician at night and the Young Electric Sign Company during the day. Next on his agenda was opening his own business. He started a sheet metal business working out of his mother's garage. He built the business up where he was installing furnaces in homes throughout Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. His business was first called Northern Heating and later changed to Clifco Metal. Cliffs next big business was his farm in Slaterville. At one time, he had 300 head of beef, ducks, horses, chickens, turkeys and pigs and loved every minute of it. Of course, he had to involve all the family in taking care of the animals. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Washington Terrace 2nd Ward Bishopric. He loved working with the youth and participating in the Ward movie nights and Ward dinners. He served as a temple worker at the Logan and Ogden LDS Temples. In 1987, Cliff received a special award from the Boy Scouts for all the work he had done for them. He served in many other church positions throughout his life. He is a member of the Marriott-Slaterville 3rd Ward. He will be remembered for his whistle that could be heard a mile away, his big heart and helping everyone out even when he went without, his yearning to try many things and as he worked his way through the various phases he shared them with his family, his zest for life, his hard work ethic, his delight in Christmas, his joy in seeing his family grow, and his love for the gospel. Cliffs greatest loves in his life were his family get togethers, fishing, camping, and Christmas. He loved taking his kids and grand- kids fishing, in fact he would take anyone he could find fishing. Cliff kept the Christmas morning breakfast with everyone in the family that was passed down as a special tradition. Cliff loved to play the part of Santa and was so good at it that he fooled many relatives throughout the years. He is survived by his children: Janet (Richard) Ballingham, Farr West; Sue (Bruce) Bybee, Uintah; Cliff Oram, Pleasant View; Becky (Dave) Cardwell, Roy; Joe (Jackie Stone) Oram, West Haven; and Karlene (Jess) Hansen, Roy; 38 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, stepbrother, and two stepsisters, his grandson, Tom Kammeyer, and daughters-lfr-law, Paula Oram and Barbara Oram. Expressions of gratitude from the family are given to Dave and Becky Cardwell for their care and attention and most importantly, the love they showed Dad when they moved in with him for two years before he moved to the George E.
