Show Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History January 2012 With unbelievable speed, a busy, eventful year concluded, and a new year was here, bringing newopportunities, concerns, problems, happy occasions, and chances for improvement. The January 2012 issue of The Pioneer Post, noted that it was Issue 1 of Volume XIV. What changes we have witnessed in what has really seemed a very short time! Mayor Keith Butler reported the 'State of the City" in the January 2012 issue of The Pioneer Post, telling us that the City is working hard to make life better in our community. He commended the effort and resources which went into the spring flooding this past year, and how neighbors united in working together--we have great volunteers. From the Easter Egg Hunt to the Breakfast with Santa, we enjoyed great activities. The past year saw the completion of the 400 North Reconstruction Project, improvements on 1200 West and western Pioneer Road. There were park improvements at Marriott Park and Mill Creek entryway. He looks forward to dedicating two new river trail bridges and connecting another mile of trail to the river trail system. Also new businesses are opening on 2000 West and on 12th Street. The UDOT project team for the West Davis Corridor is continuing meeting with stakeholders as they begin preparing the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. They encourage sharing thoughts, concerns, and questions, and to attend public hearings in summer 2012. The first matter of business at the January 19, 2012, City Council Meeting was the administering the Oath of Office to Dennis Ilium, Scott VanLeeuwen and Rob Smout, the councilmen commencing a new term. It was administered by City Administrator Bill Morris. Councilman Kim Slater moved to suspend the rules and elect Dennis Ilium as Council President and Scott VanLeeuwen as Vice-president for 2012, which was seconded by Councilman Rob Smout. The vote on the motion was unanimous in favor. Business Licenses were approved for: Lasting Impressions, Inc., 1527 South 1100 West, janitorial services. Loayza, Inc., 2575 West 200 South, Essential Oils. Jiffy Paints, 3551 W. Pioneer Road, painting contractor. Apogee Industries, 1398 South 1200 West, manufacturing. A business license was also approved for TB Kustom Fab, inc., 119 North 2020 West, home occupation, subject to the adoption of Ordinance 2012-01, amending Chapter 13.26, extending home occupations to certain garage areas. Mayor Keith Butler asked the consent of the City Council to appoint Kim Slater to the Mosquito Abatement Board, which he has been filling. Consent was granted unanimously. Resolution 2012-A, honoring law enforcement was discussed and passed unanimously. This recognizes the valor and sacrifice of law enforcement professionals who were involved in the January 4, 2012, shooting, where one Ogden City Policeman was killed and six other officers from several agencies were wounded. The city expresses deep sympathy for those affected by this tragedy, and honors our law enforcement professionals who daily put their lives on the line to keep our community safe. A public hearing on the creation of a cemetery district in accordance with Utah Code Annotated 17B-1 - 203(1 )(d) was held. Mr. Morris presented the steps and approximate time frame for creating a Cemetery District. He also advised that a Cemetery District is a separate entity from the City, has its own elected/appointed board, who determines the location for the cemetery, set taxes/fees to pay for it, and set policy for graves, headstones, and cemetery rules. 127 |
