Show Marriott-Slaterville History September 2012 Councilman Delbert Hodson is concerned about heavy truck traffic on 1200 West. He has called England Trucking and the traffic now seems less. Councilman Rob Smout said a resident complained to him that they had reserved the bowery and there was a soccer game being played while they were there. The policy for field rental and park rental was reviewed. Councilman Kim Slater requested an update on the problem of Mr. Miller's barking dogs. The information was given by staff and a copy of the letter sent to concerned residents was given the councilman. President Ilium expressed concern about the use of ATVs in the storm water detention basin on 700 South. He would like signs posted that no ATVs are allowed, and also would like to see the canal fenced. He is also concerned about the safety of students walking from the Wahlquist Seminary to the Venture School. We were encouraged to trim and remove weeds in our neighborhood, especially around fire hydrants. They can create afire hazard. Many invasive weeds such as poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, ragweed, "puncture" weed, Scottish thistle, Bind Weed (morning glory), Dyer's Woad, Phragmites, and similar noxious vegetation should be eradicated if possible. Fall clean-up is scheduled for October 12-14, with a dumpster located at both the Maniott and Slaterville Parks. Place all garbage completely inside the dumpster, being considerate of others using it. Waste Management requests no tires or hazardous material be dumped there. The First Methodist Church in our city is sponsoring a 5K Run/1 Mile Walk to benefit the George Wahien Veterans Home, on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 10.00 a.m. There will be a chili cook-off and fun for all ages. The Weber County Animal Shelter hosted a rabies clinic on September 15, 2012. Marriott-Slaterville City has approved a new agreement for continued law enforcement with the Weber County Sheriffs Office, at an increased cost, as reported in the Standard-Examiner on September 9, 2012. As indicated in attached copies of correspondence, (September and October) the agreement has not been received, resulting in confusion for both entities. It is hoped a resolution of the matter can be settled quickly. The McKay-Dee Hospital Senior Health Connection Newsletter for September 2012, concerned cholesterol, as September is National Cholesterol Awareness Month. Cholesterol is a waxy substance that carries digested tat from your liver to where your body needs it for energy and healing. Too much in the blood can build up in the walls of arteries, which, over time, causes hardening, which slows the blood to the heart. Four areas to know are Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and Triglycerides. It gave levels tor each. A Health Fair scheduled for October 8, 2012, at the McKay-Dee Hospital Center from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Flu shots, blood pressure, cholesterol/glucose, and body fat testing will be offered. The event is free for seniors. Bits and Pieces Marilyn Law Stanger died on September 11, 2012, at the age of 81. Bart Spencer is the President of NAIFA Bonneville Chapter. An article he wrote appeared in a supplement to the Standard Examiner on September 9, 2012, along with pictures of members and awards presented. Val Holley, former resident, was invited to give the keynote address at the Utah State History Conference, which ran from September 20 through 23, 2012.
