Show Marriott-Slaterville History October 2012 October gardening tips: Prepare your gardens for winter by: 1. Cut perennials, except grasses, Lavender and roses. 2. Pull spent annuals. 3. Weed and clean up flower beds and garden areas. 4. Apply new mulch now or in early spring. 5. Apply pre-emergent to edges and perennial beds. 6. Till garden, cut lawn short, compost and fall fertilize. UDOT continues to study both alternatives A and B of the West Davis Corridor. The theme of the Senior Health Connection Newsletter for October 2012, was Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Computed Tomography (CT). Coming seminars and screenings were listed. A Health Fair was held October 8, 2012, at the McKay-Dee Hospital Center, which was free for Seniors. Flu shots, blood pressure, cholesterol/glucose screenings, and body tat testing were offered. Bits and Pieces Ned S. Jones, age 73, died on October 14, 2012. Deola Wells Stevenson died on October 24, 2012, at the age of 81. Brynnlee Rose Anglesey, daughter of Jeremy and Cris Anglesey, was bom on October 29, 2012 One of the attractions in the October 7, 2012, issue of the Standard Examiner as a "Roadside Attractions," was a big black fiberglass bull, 121/2 feet tall, 20 feet long. It stands on the west side of 1-15, just north of Brigham City, and is the official "mascot" of the Grant Range Bull Company Inc. Doug Grant of our city is one of the business owners. Sue Bodily was featured in the October 9, 2012 issue of the "hers" section of the Standard Examiner. Called "Bringing history to life one character at a time," it tells of her involvement with the Utah Renaissance Festival, Utah Pirate Festival, and Sleepy Millcreek Hollow. An article in the October 11, 2012, issue of the Standard Examiner related the story of Brandon Slooper, 25, of our city, who had been charged with aggravated assault, a second degree felony, and unlawful detention, a class B misdemeanor tor a July 2, 2011, case involving Ashlee Bambrough. He pleaded "no contest" to the charges, with the charge of kidnapping reduced, making a trial unnecessary. He will be sentenced at a hearing on December 5, 2012. Hunter DeVries was the TX reporter tor Fremont High School for the October 15, 2012, issue of the Standard Examiner. His article was "Just what's so social about 'social' media?" Charles Trentelman's Wasatch Rambler column in the October 23,2012, issue of the Standard Examiner, told the story of the calliope owned by Eve Hartley and her late husband Ray. Nearly 85, Mrs. Hartley is trying to sell the calliope and many other things Ray has collected. Sleepy Mill Creek Hollow was open from October 23 to 31, except Sunday and Monday, from 7-10 p.m., at the Green Bam Gardens, 195 South 2250 West, south of the Slaterville Park. It featured displays on how to haunt your castle, the 'Trail of Terror," great food, storytellers, and family fun. Admission was $5.00 per person. 151 |
