Show Marriott-Slaterville History July 2012 No City Council Meeting was held in July. The community garden needs volunteers to weed and deadhead to keep them looking nice. No gardening day was scheduled in July, but help for this work was encouraged. We were advised in The Pioneer Post about road closures this month. The Mill Creek Subdivision road was closed tor about 24 hours on July 10. The Spencer Farms road likewise was closed on July 23, for 24 hours. A High Density Mineral bond was applied to these roads as part of the maintenance schedule to extend the life of the road and prevent potholes and cracking. It needed time to properly cure. Residents had to park on streets outside the subdivision for the closure period, and walk to their homes. This summer 1200 West is scheduled to be chip-sealed between 12th Street and 400 North. Residents should plan ahead tor summer road work. Marriott-Slaterville is one of the cities who must decide whether to extend contracts with the Weber County Sheriff at an increased cost.or find alternative police protection. The cost will raise from $190,927 to $206, 582. The deadline is August 31, 2012. After a meeting between Mayor Keith Butler and Sheriff Terry Thompson on July 27, 2012. the city administration accepted the proposed revised contract, and notified Sheriff Thompson by email on July 30, 2012. At that time, the city requested that the county submit an interlocal agreement for law enforcement services to the city for action by the City Council. UDOT is continuing to study information on the West Davis Corridor, and is drafting chapters of the EIS document and conducting an in-depth analysis of impacts, prior to an anticipated final decision in 2013. Residents are encouraged to submit comments and ask questions. The McKay-Dee hospital Senior Health Connection Newsletter for July 2012 encouraged immunizations for Seniors. One to consider is Pertussis or whooping cough. Immunity to it decreases a bit in adulthood, and adults 19 to 64 should have a Tdap shot. Those who expect to have close contact with a baby under the age of 1, (including those over 64) should have the Tdap to protect the babies from whooping cough. Anyone over 50 should consider the shingles vaccine to help avoid the shingles, a contagious viral infection. Chol/glucose Screening was available at the Senior Center on July 17, 2012, at 11:00 am. Bits and Pieces Congratulations go to resident Jamie Aiken who was the pitcher for the state champion Roy High School Softball team. She was also chosen by the Standard -Examiner for the All Area First Team. Eleanor Diane Moss, daughter of Jacob and Shelly Moss, was bom on July 7, 2012. 143 |
