Show Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History November 2012 Halloween was over, so the November issue of The Pioneer Post reminded us that we must start thinking of "Snow Time." Most of us want to have lots of snow in our mountains (we want water next summer), but many do not want too much here on the Wasatch Front. When it does come- and it will- we need to remember how to drive safely in snowy or icy conditions. The Pioneer Post gave drivers some good counsel. "The best advice for driving in bad winter weather is not to drive at all, if you can avoid it. Don't go out until the snow plows and sanding trucks have had a chance to do their work, and allow yourself extra time to reach your destination." Some tips were given: 1. Decrease your speed and leave yourself plenty of room to stop. 2. Brake gently to avoid skidding. 3. Turn on your lights to increase your visibility. Keep lights and windshield clean. 4. Use low gears to keep traction, especially on hills. 5. Don't use cruise control or overdrive on icy roads. 6. Be especially careful on bridges, overpasses and infrequently traveled roads. 7. Never pass snow plows and sanding trucks. 8. Never assume your vehicle can handle all conditions. We were reminded that it is illegal to park on the side of the road during and after a snowstorm because of the need to plow the roads. Such vehicles can be towed away. The most traveled roads are plowed first, subdivisions and least traveled roads are plowed last. Home and business owners with sidewalks are responsible to remove the snow from sidewalks within 24 hours after a snowstorm. Remove your garbage cans from the road as soon as possible after collection. Breakfast with Santa will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 9:00 to 11:00 am. at the Senior Center. Santa will pay a visit. The cost is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 12 and under. You must RSVP by calling the C'rt Office. The October 2012 alternative refinements and updated wetlands information are available on the West Davis Corridor EIS project website, www.udot.utah.gov/westdavis. Alternatives A and B are being studied as part of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Chapters of the Draft document are being written, and a detailed analysis on impacts such as noise, water quality, and air quality is being conducted. This will be released in spring 2013. A final decision is not expected until 2014. We are encouraged to submit comments and ask questions. A business license for Advanced Injury Rehabilitation, 1920 West 250 North, #24, was issued at the City Council Meeting held on November 15, 2012. Ordinance 2012-08 relating to Business Licensing and Regulations was discussed. Bill Moms, City Administrator, met with the manager of High Country Inn to address their concerns. The ordinance includes their suggestion that the fee for this category of business be incrementally imposed over a two year period. During the past month there has been only one letter relating to business license fee received, which was from Gerald Hoth's attorney. Mr. Moms has worked with Mr. Hoth on good landlord and non-discrimination policy, and made some changes recommended by Mr. Hoth. The changes relate only to the good landlord program to allow for experience of 10 years or more to count instead of a class, and to place additional restrictions on tenants who have sex offenses on their record. The draft showing the minor changes was given to the council. The study has been updated and the ordinance will reflect the new date of the final version. Mrs. Jeannette Harris, representing Zions Bank, responded to the letter from Craig Smith, attorney for Mr. Hoth, by reading the attorney's concern, and the response from Zions Bank, who stands behind the study. She feels the response addresses the concerns. Mrs. Harris said that the cost per call for police services is n 152 |
