Show The Pioneer Post Volume XIV Issue 9 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter September 2012 Senior Center Meals: Our community offers a senior center and a variety of senior programs open to the public. Each Tuesday at 11:30 AM is our senior lunch sponsored by Weber-Morgan Nutrition. A lunch donation of $3 for seniors (60 and over) is suggested but not required. Cost for non-seniors is $6. Lunch is first-come, first-serve basis. Enjoy a meal at the senior center while visiting with friends. Weekly Activities: Each week there are line-dance classes and yoga. Monday morning beginner line-dance starts at 9:00 AM. Intermediate line-dance is Thursday at 11:00 AM. Yoga classes designed led by Carolyn Deru, an excellent Yoga instructor, are each Thursday at 9:00 AM. Activities are designed to help people stay active and provide positive interaction. Anyone is welcome to attend at no charge. Media Center: The DUP Memorial Library that offers an abundance of media. The center has books, a few videos, and other resources that may be borrowed at no cost. There are also public computers you can use. City Hall Park: The park behind city hall features a bowery, playground, and municipal gardens. Residents can reserve the bowery for a activities. The municipal gardens are maintained by our wonderful volunteer community gardeners and also available for use. For more information or reservation and costs contact the city office at 801-627-1919. Flu Shots at City Hall September 25th from 11:00 A.M. to 12 Noon Bring your medicare card and drivers license. Also, use Advantage card, if you have one. Cost is $25 for regular shot, $50 for high dose. Fall Clean-up Fall Clean-up is scheduled October 12-14. A dumpster will be located at Marriott Park and at Slaterville Park. Please put all garbage completely inside the dumpster, not on the ground. This is a complimentary service, please be considerate of others using the dumpster. Waste Management requests no tires or hazardous material be dumped. For junk cars, call Bill at the City Office, 801- 627-1919 ext. 205. Weed Removal Encouraged Fall brings and abundance of weeds and fire hazards. Feel free to trim and remove weeds in your neighborhood, especially around neighborhood fire hydrants. There are many invasive weeds that you are free to eradicate such as: poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, ragweed, "puncture" weed, Scottish thistle, morning glory, Dyer's Woad, Phragmites, and similar noxious vegetation. Ordinance relating to Comprehensive Storm Water Amendments. 4. Agreement with county surveyor. 5. Officer report and legislative oversight. 6. Adjourn until October 18, 2012. Wahlen Veterans Home The First Methodist Church in Marriott-Slaterville is sponsoring a 5K Run/1 Mile Walk to benefit the George Wahlen Veterans Home on Saturday, October 13, at 10:00 AM. There will be a chili cook-off and fun for all ages. Register online or for more information see www.funcogdenut.org or call 801-393-5662. Rabies Clinic Weber County Animal Shelter (1373 North 750 West) will host a rabies clinic on September 15, 2012 from 1.00 - 3:00 PM. Shots cost $14. Dog license also available. West Davis Corridor UDOT is continuing to study both Alternatives A and B as part of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS). Currently, UDOT is drafting chapters of the Draft EIS document and conducting a detailed analysis on impacts such as noise, water quality, and air quality. The result of this in-depth analysis will be reflected in the Draft EIS. A final decision is not expected until 2013.
